HANGING STRONG Ed Ruth, who is moving to 184 pounds, wrestles teammate Wes Phipps at Penn State's annual intrasquad scrimmage. D |
uring halftime of its football game against Navy, Penn State introduced each of its national and conference champs from the year prior. Every deserving team and individual received
an ovation as part of the annual Pa- rade of Champions, but the intermis-
sion crowd might have been at its loudest when the final team was ac- knowledged: the Penn State wrestling team, winner of back-to-back NCAA and Big Ten titles. Clad in blue, white and gray camou-
flage T-shirts to commemorate Armed Services Day at Beaver Stadium, the
wrestlers waved their hands and pointed their index fingers to the nearly 100,000 fans who were standing to applaud. Even four-time All-American Frank Molinaro, who has since graduated and accepted an assistant coaching job at Rutgers, took a day off from work to be honored with his former team.
