MARCH 2018 ■ 13 TRACKING THE PACK Offensive lineman Timothy McKay from Raleigh Wakefield had a plan going into his junior day visit to NC State Jan. 27 — he was going to commit to the Wolfpack. The 6-4, 290-pounder who just turned 16 earlier in the month also had an offer from Duke, but he knew that NC State — where his older brother Matthew McKay is a freshman quarterback who redshirted last fall — was going to be the place for him. "Everything felt right," the younger McKay said. "I've been thinking about it for a while. The coaching staff is amazing. The distance from home is great. The family situation is a great fit. "It's where I could see myself for the next four or five years." McKay added that making the decision felt good. "My family is very excited," he noted. "The NC State coaches went crazy because they want that homegrown talent." The expanding talent-pool in the surrounding Wake County area is something head coach Dave Doeren has been emphasizing. In December, NC State signed five Wake County natives, plus three- star wide receiver Devin Carter from neighboring Clayton High and four-star linebacker Payton Wilson from nearby Hillsborough Orange for the Pack's 2018 recruiting class. McKay moved to offensive tackle as a junior for Wakefield after previously playing on the interior of the line. Although McKay said he felt more comfortable at offensive tackle, NC State offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford has let McKay know that he will either be a guard or center for the Wolfpack. McKay's hope is, like his brother did, to enroll early at NC State. NC State has two verbal commitments in the 2019 class, with McKay joining long snapper Drew Little from North Stanly High in New London, N.C. McKay is rated by Rivals.com as a three-star pros- pect and the No. 29 player in the state's 2019 class. 247Sports.com lists him as a four-star recruit, the No. 8 prospect in North Carolina, and the No. 11 offensive guard and No. 256 junior in the nation. ■ Offensive lineman Timothy McKay from Raleigh Wakefield is the younger brother of NC State redshirt freshman quarterback Matthew McKay.
