Top 2014 athlete to visit PSU North Carolina junior headlines visitor list for Wisconsin game RYAN SNYDER | B L U E WH I T E I L L U S T R A T E d Penn State is expected to host an- other sizeable group of prospects this weekend for its game against Wiscon- sin. Verbally committed prospects such as Adam Breneman, Garrett Sickels, Andrew Nelson, Tanner Hartman and Christian Hackenberg are expected to be in attendance, but this week's list is highlighted by potential walk-on can- didates and top prospects in the Class of 2014. One name to watch closely is DeAn- dre Thompkins, a junior from Swans- boro, N.C. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound athlete already holds a scholarship offer from the Nittany Lion staff, and he expects to get a good look at Univer- sity Park this weekend. "I'm supposed to come up there Fri- day and watch their walk-through practice," Thompkins said. "I'm going to meet with their coaches, then maybe meet some players, then talk with the staff about the academic part of Penn State – not just the athletic stuff." Thompkins also said that he plans to attend Penn State's basket- ball game Friday afternoon against Bucknell. In addition to Penn State, North Car- olina, North Carolina State and Old Dominion have also offered Thomp- kins. However, the Nittany Lions have something else working in their advan- tage. Thompkins said his high school coach, Tim Laspada, "loves Penn State, grew up loving them. He's not really pushing them on me or anything, he just supports my choice. He does think that Penn State is a school I should consider, but he doesn't push it. He keeps it level." A few other 2014 prospects who will be in attendance Saturday include Thaddius Smith and Dashawn Darden from Cardinal O'Hara High School in Springfield, Pa. Also, defensive back prospect Foster Reznor of Grove City, Pa., will return to University Park for a third time this season, while tight end PENN STATE RADIO NETWORK AHEAD OF THE CURVE Thompkins already holds a verbal scholarship offer from Penn State. Rivals.com Mike Gesicki of Manahawkin, N.J., Southern Regional High School will make his second trip to Penn State this season. Finally, Courtel Jenkins, a defensive tackle prospect from St. Anthony High School in Jersey City, N.J., is expect- ing to catch his first Penn State game of the year. The 6-2, 323-pound nose tackle prospect already holds an offer from Pittsburgh, while schools such as Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, Rutgers, West Virginia and Wisconsin have all showed inter- est. As for a few potential walk-on candi- dates, linebacker Brandon Smith of Lewisburg, Pa., will once again be in attendance. In the next month or two, he'll decide between Penn State and a few Ivy League schools. Another name to remember is ath- lete Kyle Searfoss from Red Land High School in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Like Smith, Searfoss has some decisions to make in the near future. As of now, he'll either walk on at Penn State or pursue a baseball scholarship this spring.
