APRIL 2018 THE WOLVERINE 11   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS NFL Network reporter Kim Jones at the NFL Combine, discussing Hurst's heart condition "I checked in with [former Michigan defensive tackle] Maurice [Hurst], and he said he has an irregular EKG and will receive more testing at Michigan. I also asked him if this is scary, and he said no. Maurice said he's fine and has been training the whole time and feels good. His pro day is March 23 at Michigan, and he's optimistic he'll be cleared and able to participate at it. "He talked to about 15 teams at the combine and noted they all asked him the exact same questions I just asked him. He smiled at me, is in good spirits and interacting with everyone — he said he feels good physically." PHOTO COURTESY MICHIGAN ATHLETICS "[Michigan junior forward Moe] Wagner is going to be a March darling if the Wolverines make a run because of his story: He's German, he plays like [Dallas Mavericks forward] Dirk [Nowitzki] and he also has a big goofy smile on his face that makes him look like the world's largest 9 year old." — NBC Sports' Rob Dauster "He adds size, quickness and experience to the Michigan defense immediately. … He might not have even started for Utah this upcoming season, with its depth at corner. So can he start right away at Michigan? If he can, and stay healthy, he's a big-time impact prospect." — Rivals.com director of recruiting Mike Farrell, on graduate transfer DB Casey Hughes "Both prospects [junior quarterback Shea Patterson and redshirt sophomore quarterback Brandon Peters] were highly regarded out of high school, but it is clear that Pat- terson is the bigger fish. He was our No. 1 quarterback in the country coming out of high school, he showed great promise in his short time at Ole Miss and it would not be a surprise to see him be the more effective signal-caller de- spite Peters' advantage of knowing the system. "Patterson can extend the play better and has that 'it' factor, so we'll see how this shakes out and whether Pat- terson's appeal will be granted. My best guess is that Pat- terson will be granted the ability to play right away and he wins this battle." — Rivals.com director of recruiting Mike Farrell, in an article discussing the Big Ten's best spring posi- tion battles "I loved it all — the team just played so well together. You have to like their defense — there can't be a team in col- lege basketball playing better defense than Michigan right now. Coach [John] Beilein has done such an incredible job. The team plays so inspired, and you can see throughout the game their hustle is contagious. "I've watched a lot of their games this year, and I've no- ticed how Coach Beilein is coaching every second of every game. I sent him a congratulatory text, and he sent a text back asking me to tell Dad that the team is attacking with a passion unknown to mankind." — Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh, on the U-M basketball team's 2018 Big Ten Tournament title — Austin Fox THEY SAID IT THE WOLVERINE PO Box 2331 • Durham, NC 27702 1-800-421-7751 Visit our online store!
