APRIL 2018 THE WOLVERINE 5   FROM OUR READERS On defensive tackle Maurice Hurst being a polarizing figure in the lead up to the NFL Draft, even before his heart condition was discovered … • I tend to think [New England Patri- ots head coach Bill] Belichick would know how to use him. He makes plays. I would be surprised if he's not a really good player. blue_in_chicago • That could be a good fit since [fellow U-M alum Alan] Branch seems to be on the way out. Hurst is a 4-3 DT, in my opinion. If he runs really well, though, he could make some wonder about a 3-4 DE since that's a weak position. ribball06 • Mo has the fastest first step of any interior lineman I have ever seen in col- lege football. He was "must see TV" at U of M. Hope for the very best for him. GR_Blue3 • Wish him luck and hope it's not se- rious and is correctable. He was my favorite player this year. Seems like a great guy, too. gsw99 On the football team's offensive staff shakeup … • The more this [wide receivers coach Jim McElwain] hire settles in the more I really like it. Add in [offensive line coach Ed] Warinner getting full control of the OL I think we'll see a more cohesive unit all around. Sidenote, Florida [where McElwain was the head coach] with the ninth- ranked class in nation and him being around Bama for years makes me think the recruiting flaw is a bit overstated. He might not be a dynamo, but I'm sure he'll be at least competent. ncampbell21 • "He comes across a little on the goofy side, but I think that's genuine," [InsideTheGators.com's Mark] Wheeler said [in a TheWolverine.com article]. "As recruits get to know him, they like him more and more. He's not going to walk in and sweep anyone off their feet. As you get to know him, his personality is a bit quirky, but it's genuine. That is who he is." Sounds like a head coach we know … blueuphoria • I've been a fan of [McElwain] since he coached at Bama. I think he could be a great OC here if we get the OL fixed. wiedster9 • I was a fan when [McElwain] was at Colorado State. He certainly has some potential. Looking forward to our re- ceivers getting open and scoring more points this year. Profmobile • [ Warinner] is going to do great things at Michigan. Don Brown of the offense sort of. Bigleague256 On the basketball team's run to the Big Ten title in New York City … • I, for one, was up watching and reading anything I could find on Sun- day night. I shed a few tears watching Moe [Wagner] hug his mom. The joy on both their faces was so pure. And seeing Beilein so happy and so engag- ing, you could tell that there wasn't any other place on earth he wanted to be. You could tell his happiness derived from watching his players achieve something special, and not from add- ing anything to his résumé. While Jor- dan Poole may cause Beilein to lose a few more hairs, I think his energy rubs off on coach and will keep him young. Also, I don't know if it would be best for Moe to come back for his senior year, but I sure wish he would because I'm going to miss watching him. marzanoj • Thank God for the existence of a real life Michigan hero that is sure to keep the pilot light in our souls ignited for another generation … which is about all we need, right? KevinWerner • Right there with you … I've seen a lot of great Michigan sports moments in my 41 years on this planet, but being in NYC all weekend, this one was re- ally hard to beat. Walking around town with a block M hat on all weekend felt so damn good. … Hope this fantastic ride continues to the pinnacle. CWood2 • Yeah, there are some people who just jump on board when things get fun in March. But there are a lot of us who have been on Team Beilein though all of it and are really enjoying this. andrewhfine • I decided at some point to just em- brace being called a Beilein apologist. Biggest problem now is to not get tram- pled by the rush to the bandwagon. They don't even say "Excuse me." sane1 • John Beilein deserves a national title as much as Bo Schembechler deserved one. mich90 • The last 14 months of Michigan bas- ketball have pulled on the heartstrings as much, if not more than any other team in my lifetime. You know what you're watching is authentic. It's real. It's not fake and no one is ever going to take a thing away. These won't become tarnished memories. Coach and this pro- gram embody everything that Michigan should be. They "touch every line." That phrase should be on the wall in Crisler someday. Let's go get that banner. SouthpawBlue6 • I told my brother after the game that this is my favorite team since Cazzie [Russell]. Maybe my joy is enhanced by the news that the cheaters, crooks and frauds may be outed but this team is so damn gritty, they appear to be great kids and truly embrace "the team." Seeing [Beilein's] enjoyment while rack- ing up the titles is heartwarming after suffering through the dark years while watching a jerk like Izzo be revered. Dalemac • As I live in NYC, I was able to see the Nebraska, MSU and Purdue games in person. It was, by far, one of the best sporting events I've ever been to, no doubt. The energy was electric. The Michigan family was there by the thou- sands supporting the team and taking over the Garden. … It was a special, spiritual time at MSG with memories that will last forever. Go Blue! z_for_three • The way he goes about everything, Beilein will go down as my favorite Michigan coach of all time. Win a natty … and, well, put a nail in it. quarterback2213 From Our Website
