Here's a look at back at how the women's basketball, wom- en's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track and field, and wrestling teams fared, with the best performances and most valuable players highlighted for each. WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (23-10 OVERALL, 10-6 BIG TEN) Best Performance — Jan. 16 at Ohio State: The Wolverines took down the rival Buckeyes 84-78 in Columbus behind 27 points and 11 rebounds from junior forward Hallie Thome. Senior guard Katelynn Fla- herty added 21 points — 18 of which came in the second half. MVP — Senior Katelynn Flaherty: The standout guard is the all-time leading scorer for both men's and women's basketball at Michigan. She averaged 23.5 points per game this season, which ranked fifth in the country. Honors: Both Flaherty and Thome were named first-team All-Big Ten … Senior forward Jillian Dunston was named to the league's All-Defensive team and was Michigan's Sports- manship Award honoree. Notable: The Wolverines made the NCAA Tournament as a No. 7 seed and beat No. 10 seed Northern Colorado 75-61 in the first round. Michigan's season ended in the sec- ond round, where it lost 80-58 to No. 2 seed Baylor. Michigan made its the seventh NCAA Tournament appearance in school history, and head coach Kim Barnes Arico's sixth overall and second as the Wolver- ines head coach. She also led Michi- gan to a NCAA Tournament berth is 2013, when U-M reached the second round, tying this year's performance as the best in school history. WOMEN'S SWIMMING AND DIVING Best Performance — March 14‑17 at the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio: Michigan capped off its season with a bang, finish- ing fourth in the country to earn a team trophy and its first top-four finish since 1996. The Wolverines' 267 points are the third highest in program history. Forty-four teams participated in the competition. U-M had 10 scoring performances — six of them in finals. It ended Indiana's three-year streak of being the highest finishing Big Ten team nationally and marked the first time since 1996 that a Big Ten team finished in the top five. MVP — Junior Siobhàn Haughey: She was an All-American is both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle, coming in fourth and second nation- ally in those races. She is a three-time Big Ten champion, winning the 200- yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley and 400-yard freestyle relay at this year's meet. Honors: Seven Wolverines were named first-team All-Big Ten, includ- ing Haughey, seniors Gabrielle De- loof and G Ryan, juniors Catherine Deloof and Yirong Bi, sophomore Vanessa Krause and freshman Daria Pyshnenko … Senior Clara Smiddy and sophomore Miranda Tucker were named second-team All-Big Ten … Ryan was Michigan's Sportsman- ship Award honoree. Notable: Fourteen Michigan swim- mers and divers qualified for the NCAA Championships, 12 of them swimmers, which tied for third most in the country behind Stanford (18) and Texas A&M (16). U-M won its third straight Big Ten title and didn't lose a meet in the regular season, going 10-0. MEN'S INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD Best Performance — Feb. 9‑10 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tenn., and Kent State Qualifier in Kent, Ohio: With the team split across three locations, se- nior Grant Cartwright tossed a career- best 19.20 meters (63 feet) in the shot put to become one of two men in the nation with throws of at least 19.20 in the shot put and at least 22.30 in the weight throw. The triple jump duo of senior Kevin Stephens Jr. and fresh- man Daniel Butael posted the best triple jump performance by Michigan teammates at Kent State, with sopho- more Sierra Hendrix-Williams tak- ing a win in the hurdles by running a pair of career bests. Senior Chase Barnett ran a personal record in the mile at Iowa State to move to No. 15 in Michigan history in the event. MVP — Senior Grant Cartwright: The veteran thrower scored 10 points in the Big Ten Championships and earned second-team All-American honors at the NCAA Indoor Cham- pionships with a 12th-place finish in the weight throw. Honors: Cartwright was named the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Year.   OLYMPIC SPORTS UPDATE Michigan's Winter Teams Finish Strong Junior Siobhàn Haughey earned All-America accolades in the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyle while helping Michigan place fourth as a team — its first top-four finish since 1996.
