28 ■ THE WOLFPACKER TRACKING THE PACK wolfpacker spotlight HAYDEN HIDLAY Redshirt Freshman • Wrestling Redshirt freshman wrestler Hayden Hidlay has had quite a year. He won the first 26 matches of his first college season while wrestling at 157 pounds, captured an ACC title and advanced all the way to the finals at the NCAA Championships March 17 before falling for the first time to take runner-up honors. In late April, Hidlay competed at the 2018 U.S. Open in Las Vegas, his first senior-level freestyle wrestling event, and placed second at 70 kilograms (154.3 pounds). Hidlay, the No. 7 seed, won his first four matches by a combined score of 36-9 before losing to former two-time All-American Jason Chamberlain in the finals. Hidlay's younger brother Trent wrestled in the junior division and finished sixth at 79 kilograms (174.2 pounds), upsetting top-seeded Travis Wittlake in the process. Hidlay, who will be a freshman at NC State in the fall, was ranked by FloWrestling as the nation's No. 18 overall recruit, while Wittlake was listed third. — Matt Carter/Photo Courtesy NC State Media Relations
