Penn State wrapped up the Big Ten outdoor championships with a pair of individuals winning gold medals in their respective events May 13 at Indiana. Isa- iah Harris won his third consecutive men's 800-meter title, while Danae Rivers captured the women's 1,500- meter crown. Harris, a junior, tallied a meet-record time of 1 minute, 45.31 seconds en route to the top spot in the 800. "I was feeling really good during the final 200 of the race, and that's where I feel the strongest, but today I would say that I felt better than I've ever felt," Harris said. "I just knew I had to get around the leaders going into the final turn and hold them off down the final straightaway." Penn State has now won eight Big Ten 800-meter titles in the past 10 years (2009-12, 2015-18). Former Nittany Lion standout Casimir Loxsom had held the conference championship meet record when he took first in 2012 with a time of 1:46.12. After finishing second as a freshman last year in the women's 1,500, Rivers stood atop the podium after she crossed the finish line first with her time of 4:27.47. "I'm thankful to have this op- portunity and I am blessed," she said. Other standouts for Penn State in- cluded Michael Biddle, who won the men's javelin, and Maddie Holmberg, who finished second in the heptathlon. Holmberg's 5,797 points set a school record in the event, while Biddle's win- ning throw of 239 feet, 7 inches was a personal best by 4 feet. In the team race, the Penn State men finished fifth, while the women were ninth. ■ ALL SPORTS PSU 2nd in final winter Directors' Cup standings For the 13th consecutive year, Penn State has placed in the top 2ve in the Lear2eld Directors' Cup 2nal winter standings.
