We are grateful that there is so much enthusiasm for our coaches and student-athletes. As we head in to the summer months, we will be con- tinuing our fundraising push in several key areas. The Annual Fund is always a critical component of our over- all success and is responsible for the majority of funding for the scholarship expense. In April, the University Board of Visitors approved a tuition increase for the 2018-19 academic year of approximately 3%. With our current $18 million scholarship expense even a small increase in tuition has a significant impact. Each donor who participates in our 110% initiative by giving 10% more each year plays a major role in helping us fund these tuition increases. The direct result of tuition increases is that a full out-of-state scholarship will be approximately $65,000 and in-state will be approximately $32,000 (in- cluding tuition, fees, room, board, books and the cost of attendance stipend). If you haven't made your pledge this year, we encourage you to do so now. It is helpful in our budget planning to record donor commitments as early in the year as possible. In addition, your $100 or more pledge for 2018 ensures you will continue receiving the Cavalier Corner for the remainder of the year. We are making progress on the fundraising effort to support the football program. In my last letter, I wrote that Carla Williams has asked our staff to focus intently on fundraising to support immediate needs within the football program. To that end, we are working to complete a $2.5 million fundrais- ing effort that will provide $500,000 per year over five years to be used for resources essential to the overall operation of the football program. At the end of May, we have raised almost $1.7 million. If you have any interest in supporting our football program in this initiative, I encourage you to contact a member of our staff. Finally, the spring semester recently concluded and the athletics depart- ment hosted the Hoos Choice Awards in May at which all of our endowed scholarship recipients were named. We now have 74 endowed scholarships and our goal is to one day endow all 316 scholarships. You can view all re- cipients by visiting our website. The highlight of each year is always Final Exercises held on the Lawn. This year 134 student-athletes completed their degrees and walked the Lawn. We are so appreciative of the continued support of donors who help create the very best academics and athletics experience possible. Graduation week- end is not only a great reminder of how significant donor support is for our student-athletes but also of the tremendous impact their UVA experience will have on the rest of their lives.
