athletics Inside Michigan Michigan To Meet Notre Dame At Night In 2013 Just like they did in 2011 (shown above), the Wolverines will host the Fighting Irish under the Michigan Stadium lights on Sept. 7, 2013. F or the third consecutive season, the Michigan-Notre Dame game will occur at night, the 2013 iteration marking the second night game in Michigan Stadium history when the Wolverines host the Fighting Irish Sept. 7. The contest will be televised by ESPN. In conjunction with the game, U-M will honor 1940 Heisman Trophywinner Tom Harmon with a Legends Jersey. "Our athletic department is looking forward to recreating the night game magic from two years ago," athletics director Dave Brandon said. "We have more in store for this game than the initial night game and will 12  the wolverine    January 2013 photo by lon horwedel work hard to create many wow moments. "One of those magical moments will be the honoring of Tom Harmon. He is one of the greatest athletes in school history and we are excited to celebrate all that he accomplished at Michigan. Having Tom's 'Old 98' back on the field will be special." In his three-year career at Michigan, Harmon rushed for 2,134 yards and 30 touchdowns — records until 1968 (Ron Johnson, 2,440 yards) and 1983 (Steve Smith, 31 TD) — while also throwing for 16 touchdowns. He also had 33 extra points and scored three receiving touchdowns, and finished with 237 career points. Harmon, who served as a pilot in World War II, will become the eighth Wolverine to have his number honored with a Legends Jersey, joining Desmond Howard (No. 21), Bennie Oosterbaan (No. 47), Gerald Ford (No. 48), Ron Kramer (No. 87) and the Wistert Brothers — Albert, Alvin and Francis (No. 11). Michigan hosted its first-ever night game Sept. 10, 2011, when it welcomed Notre Dame to The Big House. The Maize and Blue rallied from a 24-7 third-quarter deficit to win 35-31, scoring the go-ahead touchdown with just two seconds remaining on the clock. The 2013 contest will be the last between the two schools in Ann Arbor for the foreseeable future. The rivalry will cease following the 2014 season. Michigan has an all-time record of 25-15 in night games (contests starting at 5 p.m. or later local time), going 0-3 this year with losses to Alabama in Dallas, at Notre Dame and at Nebraska. The Wolverines were 3-0 in 2011, though, besting ND at home, Northwestern on the road and Virginia Tech in the Sugar Bowl.
