basketball recruiting of high school big guys that have the upside and potential of Dominic, coaches are always begging those guys to be more physical and to play with their back to the basket, that sort of thing. I think that Dominic is ahead of his time in that physicality is part of his game right now. Hes a terrific passer. Ive heard a lot of people point that out to me, including Coach Beilein. Floridas coaches were here, and they pointed out the same thing. But his ability to score around the basket and through contact is his greatest strength. He passes the ball really well and can step out and make shots. Those attributes, along with Woodsons unselfishness, are what intrigue Beilein and coaches from several other schools. Illinois recently visited and offered, while Gonzaga, Maryland, West Virginia, UConn and Louisville have all been through recently. There have been reports that U-M offered Woodson, but theyre premature. Beilein and his staff are still evaluating, though its clear theres serious interest. Michigan has not offered, Bopp said. My conversation with Coach Beilein was they wanted to see how he did for a semester and see how he adjusted before extending an offer, but he added that he is someone they are extremely interested in. He is talented enough to get a scholarship, but Coach Beilein, like many coaches, doesnt just go around offering everybody. They evaluate and take their time. They dont just take a look at a kid and say, That kid is talented enough for a scholarship, and just offer him. Likewise, Woodson is still early in the process and has yet to take visits. There are certainly lot of people that would want him on campus, Bopp said. His focus now is school and our program, but if there was an opportunity where there was a break in our academic schedule and in the commitments to our team, certainly visits would be a possibility. Dominic Woodson, a member of former U-M standout Ray Jacksons Rising Stars AAU program who will play for Saxtons River (Vt.) Vermont Academy this year, is ranked as the No.89 junior nationally by Rivals.com. photo courtesy rivals.com On The Web For regular reports on basketball recruiting, plus videos of all the top prospects in the nation and Michigans commitments, visit TheWolverine.com.
