"Chris, we'll see what his situation is exactly, if it was a strain or a cramp." On the defensive line, fifth-year se- nior Lawrence Marshall missed a 49-3 win over Western Michigan and the ensuing 45-20 victory over SMU with an undisclosed injury, while sopho- more Aubrey Solomon reported on so- cial media he underwent a knee pro- cedure and is expected to miss several weeks. Both played in week one, with Marshall earning the start. "They're both out working on some- thing this week. … We hope to have them back sooner than later," Har- baugh said of his linemen. He called them both "week to week" Sept. 10. — Chris Balas MISCELLANEOUS NOTES • Michigan's Sept. 1 contest at Notre Dame marked just the fourth time since 1999 the program began a season away from home — 2012 in Arlington, Texas, versus Alabama, and against Florida last year in the same venue, along with 2015 at Utah. • When the Wolverines fell 24-17 in South Bend, it signaled the school's first four-game losing streak since then-head coach Rich Rodriguez dropped his final four affairs of the 2009 campaign. It also signified the 17th straight road loss against ranked foes — in fact, U-M has not defeated an Associated Press top-25 team on the road since destroying No. 2 Notre Dame 47-21 in 2006. • The 49-3 victory over Western Michigan Sept. 8 marked the most points the Wolverines had scored in a contest since a 59-3 annihilation of Maryland on Nov. 5, 2016. • Michigan trotted out its second- team offensive line for much of the fourth quarter against the Broncos and lined up like this — freshman left tackle Jalen Mayfield, redshirt fresh- man left guard Chuck Filiaga, redshirt sophomore center Stephen Spanellis, redshirt freshman right guard Joel Ho- nigford and redshirt freshman right tackle James Hudson. • The Maize and Blue snapped their four-game streak of committing at least one turnover when they protected the ball for all four quarters against West- ern Michigan. • The Sept. 8 showdown against WMU was actually the first time head coach Jim Harbaugh had faced a Mid- American Conference foe during his time in Ann Arbor. Prior to that, U-M had last played a MAC opponent when it beat Miami (Ohio) 34-10 on Sept. 13, 2014. • Junior tight end Sean McKeon's 12-game reception streak came to an end against the Mustangs when he failed to haul in a pass. • Michigan's 49 points against WMU and 45 versus SMU signaled the first time it had posted 45 or more in consecutive contests since the 2016 campaign when it defeated Colorado (45-28) and Penn State (49-10) on Sept. 17 and Sept. 24, respectively. • Junior safety Josh Metellus' 73- yard pick-six against the Mustangs was the sixth-longest interception return for touchdown in school his- tory. Linebacker Brandon Herron's 94-yarder against Western Michigan in 2011 stands as the longest. • The triumph over SMU was the 10th straight non-conference home win for U-M, with all 10 coming by at least 16 points. In fact, the Wolverines have not lost to a team outside the Big Ten in Michigan Stadium since falling to Utah on Sept. 20, 2014. • The Maize and Blue's 13 penalties against the Mustangs were their most since committing 16 in a 27-20 over- time win at Indiana on Oct. 14, 2017. • Patterson's three scoring tosses each against Western Michigan and SMU marked the first time a Michigan signal-caller completed the trifecta in consecutive outings since Wilton Spei- ght racked up three against Hawai'i on Sept. 3, 2016, and four against UCF the following week. — Austin Fox MICHIGAN DEPTH CHART (UNOFFICIAL) Pos.
