M . | N O V . 2 3 | R E C H A L L | B T N | T V T B A | When the Nittany Lions opened their Big Ten season against the Golden Gophers in September, they were dealt a 3-0 loss. Minnesota totaled 50 kills, including 14 by star opposite hitter Stephanie Samedy, while Penn State 7nished with 38. But that match was played at Minnesota's Maturi Pavilion in front of a sold-out crowd. The rematch will take place in the much friendlier con7nes of Rec Hall. Penn State had gone 11-1 at home this year heading into a regular-season-ending four-game homestand that began Nov. 14 with a visit from Michigan. Still, the Nittany Lions have many reasons to be wary of Minnesota, starting with Samedy. Last year, a9er leading the Gophers in kills with 478, she became the 7rst freshman in the program's history to be named a 7rst-team All-American. She's leading them in kills again this year. As of this writ- ing, she and fellow standouts Samantha Seliger-Swenson and Adanna Rollins had the Gophers well-positioned to contend for Big Ten and national championships. But the path to the conference title includes a stop in Rec Hall, where the Nittany Lions are likely to have a few road blocks set up. –M.H. SCORECARD social media with the hashtag #NikiStrong. Approximately 100 collegiate teams have sent #NikiStrong pictures. Additionally, high school teams, club teams, Olympians, including Lenny Krayzel- burg, Kaitlyn Sandeno, Ryan Lochte, Conor Dwyer, Tom Shields and Jes- sica Hardy, and NFL quarterback Jared Go8, have all sent well-wishes. "I have been overwhelmed by the support and love I have received over #NikiStrong," Nolte said. "It has put my family and I at a loss for words. I cannot thank my Penn State Swim Family enough for showing me so much love." Those wishing to donate to support the Nolte family can do so at the #NikiStrong GoFundMe page at http://gopsu.info/nikistrong. The fundraiser will be overseen by the Penn State compliance sta8. In ac- cordance with NCAA rules, funds will be distributed to the Nolte family for documented treatment-related expenses, and any excess funds will be donated to THON and the Jessie Rees Foundation. As of Nov. 9, the ef- fort had raised $6,795 toward its $10,000 goal. "When we were recruiting Niki, she just had a presence about her, that a9er her visit here to Penn State for a recruiting visit, we looked at each other and we said, 'We want this kind of kid on our team,'" head coach Tim Murphy said. "I'm very proud of my team's response to the situation. It tugs at their heart a little bit, need- less to say. They've taken it upon themselves to reach out to the swim- ming community to try to show Niki the support that she has, not only from within Penn State, but outside, and that's taken on a life of its own, which has been really cool. I've spo- ken to Niki and her parents, and they're just really grateful and appre- ciative of the support from everyone. Anything we can do to pick up her spirits and get her back here and get her back in the water, which I know she's chomping at the bit to do." ■
