Mission Statement The Virginia Athletics Foundation, through its fundraising efforts, strives to support a preeminent intercollegiate athletics program at the University of Virginia by providing student- athletes the opportunity to achieve academic and athletic excellence. Virginia Athletics Foundation P.O. Box 400833 Charlottesville, VA 22904-4833 (434) 982-5555 | (800) 626-8723 (434) 982-5025 FAX www.VirginiaAthleticsFoundation.com Dear Cavalier Fans, As we enter the final weeks of the year, our entire staff is thankful for the thousands of generous do- nors who loyally contribute each year to support our coaches and student-athletes. This generosity is vital to the overall success of each of our 27 varsity sports. Most of this year has been focused on increasing our Annual Fund and the launch of the Master Plan facility project. The Annual Fund has been under sig- nificant pressure to keep up with rising tuition. So far this year, we have not seen the level of increase needed to match the overall scholarship cost increase. We will make our final scholarship payment to the University at the end of December which will bring our total grant-in-aid expense for this year to $19 million. We remain committed to fully funding all scholarships to the NCAA maximum number in each sport and it becomes more challenging each year. Many donors have continued to increase their Annual Fund commitments by 10% each year and we are grateful for that support. Considering that the full out-of-state scholarship costs over $63,000 (not including any summer school expenses) and an in-state scholarship costs over $31,000, any increase in annual giving is extremely helpful. It is not too late to add to your Annual Fund gift for this year! Earlier this fall, we launched the fundraising effort for the Master Plan for facilities, which includes a new football operations center, an Olympic sports operations center, several practice fields, and a renovation of the McCue Center. This is an exciting project and will provide the foundation for athletics success for the next several decades. This aggressive project will require significant help from many Virginia fans and we look forward to sharing the developments of this project in the coming months. We are also continuing to fundraise for the new tennis facility at the Boar's Head Sports Club and hope to have the funds committed soon to allow construction to begin. This will create a true home for the Virginia Men's and Women's Tennis programs. Additionally, there are still match- ing gift opportunities for endowed scholarship commitments under the University's Bicentennial Scholars Fund matching gift program. We have added several new endowed scholarships this year. Please contact our of- fice if you are interested in discussing how the Bicentennial matching gift program can impact our scholarship endowment. Once the final results are complete at the end of 2018, I look forward to sharing more successes with you. The ongoing generosity of our donor base is truly amazing and the impact is evident as our student-athletes proudly represent the University in the classroom and in competition. Best regards, Dirk P.
