52 THE WOLVERINE APRIL 2019   FOOTBALL RECRUITING for the Michigan State basketball game Feb. 24. He is considered the No. 13 player in the state of Michigan, but the Wol- verines staff might actually have him at No. 1. Also High On The Board: — Baltimore St. Frances four-star Demon Clowney — Snellville (Ga.) Shiloh three-star Jasheen Davis — Pickerington (Ohio) Central three-star Ty Hamilton OUTSIDE LINEBACKER Baltimore St. Frances Four-Star Osman Savage It's always nice to land your top target, and U-M seems to have done that at outside linebacker with Savage. With how long ago Mich- igan offered him, where he plays, how highly he is ranked and how smoothly his commitment was ac- cepted it definitely seems like he is at or near the top of U-M's board. Savage is the No. 9 outside line- backer and No. 152 overall prospect nationally, and has some offers from schools like Florida, Maryland, Vir- ginia Tech and West Virginia. The 6-2, 220-pounder is a natural leader and has a lot of influence at St. Frances, which may be even more valuable than landing Savage him- self. Also High On The Board: — Milton (Mass.) Academy four- star Kalel Mullings — Cincinnati Princeton four-star Jaheim Thomas — Brooklyn (N.Y.) Erasmus Hall Campus four-star William Mohan INSIDE LINEBACKER West Bloomfield (Mich.) High Four-Star Cornell Wheeler Michigan has, it appears, landed its No. 1 target at inside linebacker in Wheeler. The 6-0, 229-pounder is a thumper, loves to tackle and does a good job as the leader of a talented West Bloomfield defense. The No. 8 inside linebacker and No. 248 overall prospect nationally is as firm as they come in his commit- ment to Michigan, and is continually working on bringing other in-state prospects with him to Ann Arbor. Also High On The Board: — Catawissa (Pa.) Southern Co- lumbia three-star Cal Haladay CORNERBACK Baltimore St. Frances Four-Star Luke Hill The Wolverines have offered more than 30 cornerbacks and none of them stand out as the obvious top target. Hill is certainly up there, because he's talented and is at St. Frances. At 5-11 and 170 pounds, Hill isn't overly lanky, plays a physical brand of football, and has extremely fluid hips and feet. He has more than 20 offers and might be favoring Clem- son, but he did visit Michigan in Feb- ruary with a contingent of Panthers and seems legitimately interested in the Wolverines after being offered earlier this year. The No. 5 cornerback and No. 76 overall prospect nationally is wanted by many big-time programs, and Michigan is definitely one of them. The Wolverines do have a commit- ment in place from Belleville (Mich.) High 5-9, 154-pound four-star cor- nerback Andre Seldon, who is almost certainly viewed as a nickel corner only. Also High On The Board: — Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Chris- tian Academy five-star Fred Davis — Oak Park (Mich.) High four-star Enzo Jennings — Lancaster (Texas) High four-star Lorando Johnson — Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei four-star Darion Green-Warren — Houston Klein Oak four-star Dwight McGlothern — Broken Arrow (Okla.) High four-star Myles Slusher — Auburn (Ala.) High three-star Omari Porter SAFETY West Bloomfield (Mich.) High Four-Star Makari Paige A close friend and teammate of Michigan commit Cornell Wheeler, Paige is an obvious choice for this spot. He is a quiet kid and never gives information on his recruitment. People close to the situation think he'll eventually end up in Ann Arbor. The 6-3, 185-pounder is considered the No. 13 safety and No. 241 over- all prospect nationally. He is wanted by just about everyone in the Big Ten and might be looking hardest at Michigan, Ohio State and Penn State, with schools like Michigan State, Notre Dame and Wisconsin also giv- ing him something to think about. Also High On The Board: — Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe four- star Lathan Ransom — Southlake (Texas) Carroll four- star RJ Mickens ATHLETE Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek Three-Star Brian Branch Branch, the No. 25 athlete in the country, is very wanted by the Wol- verine staff. They've shown him plenty of love since offering him in late January and he's been reciprocat- ing interest. The 6-1, 178-pounder has almost 30 offers from schools like Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Ohio State, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and others, suggesting that he's probably underrated. It'll be tough to lure him out of the south, but Chris Partridge, Michi- gan's Georgia liaison, and Co. are going to do their best. Also High On The Board: — Norco (Calif.) High four-star Jaden Navarette — Gibraltar (Mich.) Carlson three- star Ian Stewart — Muskegon (Mich.) High three- star Cameron Martinez — Eads (Tenn.) Briarcrest Christian three-star Jabari Small — Rye (N.Y.) Country Day School three-star Cullen Coleman ❏ West Bloomfield (Mich.) High four- star Makari Paige is listed as the No. 13 safety and No. 241 overall prospect nationally by Rivals.com. PHOTO COURTESY RIVALS.COM
