School Commits RECRUITING NOTES • Several of Notre Dame's top defensive back targets committed to other schools in April, forcing the Irish staff to reshuffle the board and look for new targets. The Fighting Irish spent the month of May on the road checking in with previous top targets like Lathan Ransom of Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe, Rivals' No. 5 safety and No. 63 overall player in the nation; Clark Phillips of La Habra (Calif.) High, the No. 4 cornerback and No. 54 overall prospect in the country; and Eric Reed Jr. of Shreveport (La.) Calvary Academy, the No. 11 safety and No. 175 overall player nationally. • Safeties coach Terry Joseph and defensive coordinator Clark Lea traveled to Ocoee, Fla., to check on three-star athlete Lovie Jenkins, who has become more of a priority recruit. The Irish staff also checked in on four-star safety Chris Thompson of Dun- canville (Texas) High, Rivals' No. 3 safety and No. 48 overall prospect in the land; three-star cornerback Landen Bartleson of Danville (Ky.) Boyle County, the No. 11 player in Kentucky; and four-star safety Jordan Morant of Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic, the No. 9 prospect in New Jersey and No. 17 safety in the nation. All four are expected to visit in the month of June, with Jenkins, Thompson and Bartleson already locked in for the June 21-23 official visit weekend. • A number of new names emerged during the May evaluation period. Notre Dame extended offers to Arlington (Texas) High athlete Jahari Rogers, the No. 44 prospect in his home state and No. 34 athlete in the land; Mus- kegon (Mich.) High athlete Cameron Martinez, the No. 12 player in Michigan and No. 29 athlete nationally; Highland Springs (Va.) High's Malcolm Greene, the No. 4 recruit in Virginia and No. 18 safety in the country; and Lufkin (Texas) High safety Jerrin Thompson, the No. 40 rising senior in Texas and No. 19 safety in the nation. Martinez and Thompson are in the process of setting up June official visits. • Offensive line coach Jeff Quinn not only secured the commitment of Tosh Baker — the nation's No. 9 offensive tackle and No. 51 overall player — but he also visited a number of other top targets. His trip to Mars (Pa.) High resulted in four-star offensive lineman Michael Carmody, who is ranked as the No. 2 player in his home state and No. 35 offensive tackle in the land, setting up a visit, and the Irish are in very good position in his recruitment. • Quinn also made a trip to Centennial (Colo.) Eaglecrest, the home of three-star offensive lineman Reece Atteberry. Rivals' No. 3 prospect in Colorado and No. 45 tackle in the country is down to the Irish and Ohio State. — EJ Holland and Mike Singer Michael Carmody of Mars (Pa.)
