FEBRUARY 2020 THE WOLVERINE 15   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Getting To Know Men's Gymnastics Junior Cameron Bock Men's gymnastics junior Cameron Bock already has a slew of accomplishments under his belt from his first two years at Michigan, hav- ing earned first-team All- Big Ten honors while also becoming the conference's all-around champion as a sophomore in 2019. The Tustin, Calif., native has na- tional accolades on his col- legiate résumé as well, be- ing named an All-American on the parallel bars in 2018 before being recognized as an All-American in the all- around last season. Here are a few other in- teresting facts you may not have known about Bock, whose junior campaign kicked off Jan. 18 in Chicago at the Windy City Invitational: Nickname: "Cam-bo." Favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor: "Toarmina's, the pizza joint." Best meal he can cook by himself: "I can make a good chicken fettuccine Alfredo." Hobbies: "I like traveling a lot, photography, trying out new sports and being active." Favorite TV show: "'How I Met Your Mother.'" Favorite movie: "'Man of Steel.'" Dream vacation: "I'd really like to tour Europe. I've never been there, so I'd love to go anywhere in Europe." Favorite place he's been to: "I went to Japan for a com- petition in 2015, and that was one of the best experiences I've had." Favorite professional athlete: "Artur Dalaloyan, a Rus- sian gymnast." Role model: "I don't really have one." Sports he plays besides gymnastics: "I don't really play anything else on a regular basis, since gymnastics takes up all of my time. I'll play tennis or volleyball in a gym in the summer." Why he chose Michigan: "I have some family here. I also liked the vibe of the campus, and I figured that if I'm going to accomplish my goals, this would be the best place to do it." What he hopes to do after gymnastics: "I've always wanted to open one of my own gyms or something of that sort. I'd like to do something along the lines of coaching or fitness training." His overall experience at Michigan: "It's been great. There are definitely days and periods of times when the weather sucks and the classes are hard, but I know that as long as I'm working hard, this place will make me better." — Austin Fox Bock was the Big Ten all-around champion and also earned All- America honors in that event last year. PHOTO COURTESY MICHIGAN PHOTOGRAPHY MICHIGAN'S TOP PERFORMERS Women's basketball sophomore guard Amy Dilk: She was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll Jan. 6 for the second time this sea- son (Nov. 11 was the other) after helping lead the Wolverines to consecutive wins over Penn State (Dec. 31) and Michigan State (Jan. 5). The sophomore turned in outstanding perfor- mances in both games, first tallying 13 points, eight rebounds and eight assists in an 82-48 destruction of the Nittany Lions before following it up with a game-high 23 points (on 10-of-13 shooting), five rebounds and three assists in the club's 89-69 triumph over the Spartans. Men's soccer senior forward Jack Hallahan: He was cho- sen by the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) in the second round of the 2020 MLS Super- Draft Jan. 9, coming off the board with the 50th overall selection. Hallahan started 70 of the 79 matches he competed in for the Maize and Blue from 2016-19, and ranks second in program history in career points (73), third in goals (26) and tied for third in assists (21). The Redditch, Eng- land, native is just the 14th Wolverine ever to be selected in the MLS SuperDraft, and the seventh since head coach Chaka Daley took over in 2012. Volleyball sophomore outside hitter Paige Jones: She was tabbed to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America third team Dec. 18. Jones started all 32 matches this season, led the Maize and Blue in kills 22 different times and registered 10 kill-dig double-doubles. The sophomore also paced the team in kills (3.92 per set) and total aces (39), and checked in third on the roster in digs (2.22). She was also a unanimous choice for the first-team All-Big Ten squad after her hitting percentage skyrocketed from .195 last season to .252 this year. Women's swimming and diving sophomore butterfly specialist/freestyler Maggie MacNeil: She set two meet records at the Orange Bowl Classic Jan. 3 in Key Largo, Fla., and helped the Maize and Blue win all 12 events and finish first out of five teams. MacNeil set new marks in both the 50-meter butterfly (26.21) and the 50-me- ter backstroke (27.06) at the competition. The sophomore also teamed up with three other Wolverines (fifth- year senior breaststroker Miranda Tucker, sophomore butterfly specialist Olivia Carter and junior freestyler Daria Pyshnenko) to help Michigan win the 200-medley relay (1:53.01). Ice hockey senior forward Jake Slaker: He was tabbed to the Great Lakes Invitational All-Tournament Team after an impressive two-game showing against Ferris State and Michigan Tech in the annual event. Slaker scored two of U-M's four goals in the triumph over Ferris State Dec. 30, marking the first time he tallied two goals in an outing since a victory over No. 5 Penn State on Nov. 16, 2018. The senior followed up his performance against the Bulldogs by compiling an assist and a block in the Wolverines' 4-2 loss to Michigan Tech in the championship game Dec. 31. — Austin Fox
