58 THE WOLVERINE FEBRUARY 2020 BY EJ HOLLAND S everal Michigan signees took part in the country's two pre- mier high school all-star games — the All-American Bowl and the Un- der Armour All-America Game — in January. Baltimore St. Frances four-star running back Blake Corum made a splash at the Under Armour All- America Game, scoring a touchdown and breaking off a couple of exciting run plays. He also won the Spotlight Evasive Speed Drill at the Under Ar- mour Skills Challenge, proving that he is a perfect fit for Michigan's new speed-in-space identity. Another impressive Michigan signee at the game was Rivals250 cor- nerback Andre Seldon. The Belleville (Mich.) High product has drawn con- cerns due to his height (5-9), but he played bigger than his size, breaking up a pair of passes while covering some of the nation's best wideouts. Seldon drew praise at practice all week long. Former NFL stars Deion Sanders and Adam "Pacman" Jones both called Seldon a "dog" and were very complimentary of the future Wolverine. Michigan defensive end signee Braiden McGregor took part in the festivities, but did not participate in practice or the game due to injury. Meanwhile, four-star Michigan linebacker signee Kalel Mullings made his presence felt at the All- American Bowl, returning a blocked point-after try for two points. Four- star Michigan cornerback signee Dar- ion Green-Warren, who announced for the Wolverines at the game, broke up three passes. Michigan defensive back signee RJ Moten was one of the lowest-rated recruits in the game, but he played above his three-star ranking. He saw extended time at safety and came away with a couple of key tackles. The 6-0, 201-pound athlete has the potential to spin down to linebacker or even play some offense at the next level. Four-star Michi- gan wide receiver signee AJ Henning didn't get many t o u c h e s i n t h e game, but he had a solid week of prac- tice, winning reps against some of the highest-ranked defensive backs in the land. Four-star Michigan defensive back signee Jordan Morant had a chance to hang out with his future team- mates but did not play in the game. He is still recovering from a broken foot. SIGNEES PRACTICE WITH MICHIGAN Michigan called in some reinforce- ments before its bowl game clash with Alabama. Six signees had the unique oppor- tunity to practice with the Wolver- ines for three days before enrolling. So how was this able to happen? A c c o rd i n g t o N C A A b y l a w 14.2.1.1, "a student-athlete may practice during the official vacation period immediately preceding ini- tial enrollment, provided the student has been accepted by the institution for enrollment in a regular, full-time program of studies at the time of the individual's initial participation; is no longer enrolled in the previous educational institution; and is eligi- ble under all institutional and NCAA requirements." The rule worked in Michigan's favor and the Wolverines received some quality work from Rivals100 running back signee Blake Corum, who earned glowing reviews from his time in Ann Arbor. The Gatorade Player of the Year for the state of Maryland, Corum is Michigan's highest-ranked signee per Rivals.com and is a perfect fit for offensive coordinator Josh Gattis' speed-in-space offense. "It was really cool," Corum said of the opportunity. "It definitely ben- efitted me. I got a look at what spring ball is going to be like. I got to go into all the meetings with the guys. Prac- tice, overall, is faster. But I feel like with my speed, I'll fit right in. "I didn't feel like the guys were that much faster.
