PLAYER BIOS POSITION COACH Shaun Nua was named Michi- gan's defensive line coach in Janu- ary 2019, following a season in the same role at Arizona State. During his first season in Ann Arbor, he mentored a group that helped the Wolverines rank 11th nationally in total defense and 25th in scoring defense. As a team, the Wolverines finished 59th in tackles for loss per game (6.1) and 21st in sacks per game (2.77). Per Pro Football Focus, the Maize and Blue ranked first nationally in tackling, second in pass rushing and 28th in run defense. Defensive ends Aidan Hutchinson (third team, coaches; honorable mention, media) and Kwity Paye (second team, coaches; third team, media), and tackle Carlo Kemp (third team, coaches) each earned All-Big Ten honors. During his lone campaign in Tempe, Nua helped the Sun Devils finish tied for 39th in tackles for loss per game (6.7) and 73rd in yards allowed per game (404.4). Those were improvements from tied for 53rd and 109th, respectively, the year prior. Prior to his tenure at Arizona State, Nua spent six years (2012-17) working with the defensive line at the Naval Academy. Most notably, the Midshipmen won a single-season school-record 11 games and finished in the top 25 in 2015. Before his years at the Naval Academy, he worked three seasons at BYU as an intern and a graduate as- sistant. In 2010 and 2011, BYU cracked the top 25 in total defense and finished the 2011 season as the No. 25 team in the USA Today coaches' poll. Nua was a talented defensive lineman during his playing days as well. He was named to the All-Moun- tain West second team following his senior season at BYU and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2005 NFL Draft. Nua played in the league for four years and was a member of the 2006 Super Bowl champions. RETURNING PLAYERS CHRISTOPHER HINTON · DT So. · Johns Creek, Ga.
