NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2020 ■ 17 TRACKING THE PACK QUOTING THE PACK 2 Players in NFL history boast at least 30,000 career passing yards and 4,000 career rushing yards. Former NC State and current Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson joined Hall of Famer Steve Young on the elite list in Seattle's 35-30 win over the New England Patriots on Sept. 20. 3 Times NC State has won two straight road football games against ACC opponents in consecutive weeks since 1970. The Wolf- pack beat Pittsburgh 30-29 at Heinz Field on Oct. 3 and Virginia 38-20 in Scott Sta- dium on Oct. 10, marking the second time it has happened under head coach Dave Doeren. In 2018, the Pack beat Louisville and UNC in consecutive away games. The only other time it happened since 1970 was under former coach Chuck Amato in 2001, when NC State came out on top at Duke and Florida State. "What we tried to do is take the gamesmanship away from it. Also, let's reward everybody. It's an unusual year, we're doing unusual things in COVID year 2020. Instead of throwing it out there and saying this and this, how about let everybody in the tournament? I think there was a way that it could have been done. We played in the NIT [two seasons ago], a lot of teams play the CBI, there's the CIT, so why not add an extra week to it, maybe even play the first games of the higher seed at home, and try to figure out everything else and then get down to a 68-team tournament? "There was a lot of thought, it was a lot of con- versation. I thought it was a great idea because it was a one-time situation where everybody has a chance to get in. In this world with sports, we need some good things to happen. I thought it would be a great feel-good story for everyone." — NC State men's basketball coach Kevin Keatts on the ACC coaches' unanimous decision to for- mally recommend all Division I teams make the 2020-21 NCAA Tournament We would've been ready to play in the national championship game after that speech. … I remember we went on the field after that for a workout, and he just tore it up. The guy was wearing khakis and he hit every single throw for two hours." — Indianapolis Colts running back Nyheim Hines on NFL teammate PHILIP RIVERS, when the legendary Wolfpack quarterback returned to campus to give the team a motivational speech before the 2016 spring game, when Hines was a sophomore (TheAthletic.com) PHOTO COURTESY INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
