4 CAVALIER CORNER Dear Cavalier Fan, 2020 was a year to remember! We are extremely grateful for the overwhelming support we received from so many donors during a challenging year. In 2020, there were more than 8,600 fans and alumni who committed over $18.8 million in support of our student-athletes. We welcome 2021 and want you to know your gift positively impacts all our student- athletes, coaches, and programs. Thank you for your loyalty and generosity! We are excited to share some fundraising highlights from 2020: • Annual Fund: Achieved a record-breaking $18,876,495 • Master Plan: $32 million since the campaign was launched in September 2018 • New Operational Support: $4.1 million • New Endowed Scholarships: $1.4 million • Fralin Family Head Football Coach Endowment: $5 million • New Bequests, Trusts and Planned Gifts: $6.9 million These remarkable numbers reflect the passion of our generous membership base. Although most of 2020 prevented us from attending sports competi- tions and hosting our usual in-person events and celebrations, we were still thankful to connect with more than 3,500 donors and alumni through virtual events. Our student-athletes and coaches enjoyed the unique opportunities to engage with their loyal supporters and to personally share their appreciation and accomplishments. We begin 2021, inspired by your generosity, with a drive to accomplish the challenges that lie ahead. Fundraising for the Master Plan continues as the overall design of the project evolves. The football program significantly benefited from the completion of Phase I and the creation of two new natural grass practice fields. More details will be available soon on how you can sup- port this facility and its impact on all of our student-athletes. We will continue to rely on your commitment to help us fund all athletic scholarships and support our 27 varsity sports programs with operational and academic funding. This year we face a unique challenge of funding extra scholarship costs due to the NCAA granting another year of eligibil- ity. Additionally, due to the reduced capacity of fans in attendance and the significant impact on ticket revenues, combined with increased health and safety expenses, your support is more important than ever to the well-being of Virginia Athletics. We look forward to seeing you and our entire Cavalier family back at games and events hopefully soon. We are grateful for your overwhelming generosity that provides our student-athletes with an unforget- table academic and athletic experience. Best regards, Dirk P.
