MARCH 2021 THE WOLVERINE 21 2021 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ISSUE BY THE NUMBERS 6 Players from the state of Michigan inked in the class. East Lansing High three-star wide receiver ANDREL ANTHONY, Detroit Cass Tech four-star offensive lineman Raheem Anderson, Oak Park High four-star defensive tackle Rayshaun Benny, West Bloomfield High four-star running back Donovan Edwards, Sterling Heights Stevenson four- star offensive lineman Giovanni El-Hadi and Orchard Lake St. Mary's three-star punter/kicker Tommy Doman are all in-state products. U-M reeled in three prospects from Mas- sachusetts, marking the next-highest total from one state in the Maize and Blue's class. Signees in the class are also from California (two), Connecticut (two), Florida (two), Illinois (two), New Jersey (two), Texas (two), Ohio (one) and Tennessee (one). 0 Five-stars signed for the second straight cycle, and for the third time in the last four years (defensive tackle Chris Hinton and safety Daxton Hill were the exceptions in 2019). In the six recruiting classes from 2012-17, U-M signed at least one five- star in five of those years (2015 was the exception). 2 Sets of high school teammates are in the class. Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Acad- emy four-star offensive lineman Greg Crippen snapped to and blocked for four-star quarterback J.J. McCarthy this past season. Crip- pen did not allow a sack, while Mc- Carthy completed 92 of 165 passes for 1,392 yards with 16 touchdowns and no interceptions. Four-star line- backer Jaydon Hood starred along- side three-star cornerback Ja'Den McBurrows on Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas' defense. Hood registered 52 tackles last sea- son, while McBurrows made 19 tack- les with six pass breakups and three interceptions. 3 Out of three of U-M's signees who inked on the traditional National Signing Day Feb. 3 were defensive linemen, with Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep four-star George Rooks, Garland (Texas) Lakeview Centennial three-star Ike Iwunnah and Oak Park (Mich.) four-star Rayshaun Benny all being athletes who play with a hand in the dirt at the line of scrimmage. U-M signed three defensive linemen in the early signing period, making the six players at the spot the most out of any position group in the haul. — Clayton Sayfie PHOTO BY EJ HOLLAND Michigan Leather Collection Michigan Leather Collection The Wolverine • PO Box 2331 • Durham, NC 27702 • 1-800-421-7751 Visit our online store! www.TheWolverineOnDemand.com/store COMING IN APRIL: MEN'S WALLETS FREE SHIPPING! • Delivery Area Limited to Continental U.S. Please add sales tax if shipping to: NC (7.5%) or IN (7%) #1448 Large Duffel $339 (23"x12"x8.5") #1450 Business Case $269 #1457 Two-Tone Tote $189 (Available in Black or Tan) #1447 Duffel $279 (17"x10"x10") #1453 Snap ID Holder $17.95 #1452 Coin Case ID Wallet $19.95 #1454 Key Keeper $18.95
