MARCH 2021 THE WOLVERINE 65   FOOTBALL RECRUITING Offensive Line Need: 4 Commits: 1 Michigan took four offensive line- men in the 2021 recruiting cycle and will look to take around the same number this year. Remember, Michi- gan took only two in 2020, so the Wolverines need depth at a position that was really young last season. With Ed Warinner off to Florida At- lantic, ace recruiter and former tight ends coach Sherrone Moore will tran- sition over to offensive line. Moore played along the offensive line at Oklahoma and should have no prob- lem continuing his recruiting prow- ess with a different position group. The Wolverines already have one commit up front in three-star Monu- ment (Colo.) Palmer Ridge tackle Con- nor Jones. He picked U-M on Christ- mas Eve over offers from Indiana, Northwestern, Oregon State, West Virginia and others, and has remained solid despite Warinner's departure. Jones may not be the only offensive lineman that Michigan pulls from out West. Moore is also working hard on Federal Way (Wash.) Todd Beamer's Malik Agbo, the No. 25 offensive tackle and No. 172 overall prospect nationally. Agbo has shown a will- ingness to leave the Pacific North- west and is a prospect Moore is mak- ing sure to prioritize early on. Moore also got on the phone with Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco's Earnest Greene, the No. 1 guard and No. 49 overall prospect nationally, shortly after taking over the offensive line group. Michigan hosted Greene for a visit and offered extremely early, so there is familiarity on both sides. Of course, Moore is looking to bring in some Midwest talent as well. Ham- mond (Wis.) St. Croix Central's Carson Hinzman, the No. 1 center and No. 77 overall prospect; Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne's Aamil Wagner, the No. 26 offensive tackle and No. 176 overall prospect; and Whitefish Bay (Wis.) High's Joe Brunner, the No. 6 of- fensive tackle and No. 51 overall pros- pect, are all top-of-the-board recruits. Defensive Line Need: 5 Commits: 1 Michigan had a nice close along the defensive line in the 2021 recruiting class, but it remains a huge position of need entering this cycle. The Wolverines recently lost a commitment from Rivals250 Essex- ville (Mich.) Garber four-star defen- sive tackle Alex VanSumeren and are now down to just one early commit in three-star River Rouge (Mich.) High's Davonte Miles, who is not ranked at this time. Miles committed to U-M in Decem- ber over offers from Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Min- nesota and others. The defensive tackle is a project, and the Wolverines need more high-end talent in the trenches. And it all starts with five-star Cor- Cordova (Tenn.) St. Benedict prospect Walter Nolen, the No. 1 defensive tackle and No. 4 overall prospect in the country, recently released a top-10 list that included the Wolverines.
