www.BLUEANDGOLD.com JUNE/JULY 2021 61 ND SPORTS BASEBALL (24-8 OVERALL, 21-8 ACC) No. 2 Notre Dame stood in first place of the ACC after winning 11 of 14 games between April 9 and May 2, capped by a three-game home sweep of North Carolina during which the Fighting Irish outscored the Tar Heels 36-17 … The Irish — who moved up to as high a ranking as No. 2 nationally by Baseball America — are 9-0-1 in their 10 ACC series, taking at least two games from each league foe except Louisville (which was a 1-1 split after the rubber match was canceled due to weather) … Remaining on the schedule are three-game series versus Florida State May 7-9 and at Virginia Tech May 14-16, sandwiched around a single game against Valparaiso May 11 … The ACC Championship is slated for May 25-30 in Charlotte, N.C. … As of May 3, senior first baseman Niko Kavadas was hitting .308, ranked second in the ACC in on-base percentage (.483) and slugging percentage (.794), and was tied for second in home runs (15, which was also tied for fourth nationally) and tied for fourth in RBI (43) … Sophomore right-hander reliever Tanner Kohlhepp led the ACC in wins (seven), earned run average (2.34) and opponent batting average (.178). MEN'S GOLF The Irish placed second out of 12 teams at the Stitch Intercollegiate April 9-10 in Raleigh, N.C. … Freshman Tucker Clark shot a career-best 11-un- der-par 205 to place seventh … Notre Dame finished 11th out of 12 teams at the ACC Championships April 23-25 in Atlanta … Junior Taichi Kho was the Irish's top finisher, placing 22nd with a 3-over 213 … Individual and team selections for the NCAA Championships were slated to be announced May 5. WOMEN'S GOLF Notre Dame tied for 10th out of 12 squads at the ACC Championships April 15-16 in Greensboro, N.C. … Sophomore Lauren Beaudreau was the Irish's top finisher, tying for 20th with a 4-over 220 … The Irish did not earn a bid to the NCAA Regionals. MEN'S LACROSSE (7-3 OVERALL, 3-3 ACC) The No. 4 Irish were edged 13-12 in overtime at Duke April 22 and fell 12- 10 at North Carolina April 25, before wrapping up the regular season with a 22-8 home win versus Syracuse May 1 … The NCAA Championship selections will be announced May 9 … Following a 10-point effort (five goals, five as- sists) against the Orange, sophomore attackman Pat Kavanagh now owns the school's all-time single-season record for assists (36), and ranked second na- tionally in assists per game (3.60) and fourth in points per game (5.90) … Soph- omore goalie Liam Entenmann led the ACC and ranked fourth in the country in goals against average (8.41), plus was first in the league and eighth nationally in save percentage (.580) as of May 3. WOMEN'S LACROSSE (9-6 OVERALL, 5-5 ACC) No. 5 Notre Dame suffered three straight losses — 11-10 at home versus North Carolina April 10, and 19-11 and 18-12 at Boston College April 15 and 17 — before closing the regular season with a 15-10 win over Virginia Tech April 21 and a 15-11 triumph versus Louisville April 24 … The Irish topped Duke 17-16 in the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship April 28 in Chapel Hill, N.C., but fell 18-4 to host North Carolina in the semifinals April 30 … The NCAA Championship selections will be announced May 9… Senior goalkeeper Bridget Deehan led the ACC in saves per game (9.33), and was fourth in save percentage (.447) and eighth in goals against average (12.00). ROWING The Irish competed at the Big Ten Invitational April 17-18 in Harsha Lake, Ohio, and the Longhorn Invitational April in Austin, Texas … There was no team scoring at either event … Notre Dame won three races at the Big Ten regatta and one at the Longhorn Invite … The ACC Championships were slated to take place May 14-16 in Clemson, S.C. MEN'S SOCCER (8-9 OVERALL, 4-7 ACC) Notre Dame suffered a 2-0 home loss to Virginia Tech April 9 to conclude the regular season on a four-game losing skid … As a result, the Irish did not earn a bid to the NCAA Championship … Junior forward Jack Lynn earned first-team All-ACC honors after leading the team in goals with eight, which ranked second in the league at the end of the regular season … Senior mid- fielder Aiden McFadden received second-team all-league recognition. WOMEN'S SOCCER (6-7 OVERALL, 4-4 ACC) The Irish closed out the regular season by falling 2-1 in overtime at Okla- homa State April 11 and 2-1 at TCU April 17 … Notre Dame did not receive a bid to the NCAA Championship. SOFTBALL (28-12 OVERALL, 17-10 ACC) After opening the month of April with four defeats at Florida State, Notre Dame ripped off nine consecutive wins to close out the month, highlighted by four-game sweeps versus Virginia at home April 16-18 and at Virginia Tech April 23-25, and then swept a doubleheader from Charlotte May 1 to run its win streak to 11 … During that stretch, though, the Irish had six games canceled due to COVID-19 concerns … Senior outfielder Abby Sweet's .465 batting average led the ACC and ranked 18th nationally. MEN'S TENNIS (14-10 OVERALL, 7-5 ACC) The Irish won four of their last five regular-season matches, with wins ver- sus ACC foes Georgia Tech (4-2) April 9, Clemson (4-2) April 11 and Virginia Tech (4-0) April 18 … Fourth-seeded Notre Dame lost 4-3 in the opening round of the ACC Championship April 15 in Rome, Ga. … The Irish earned the program's 28th NCAA Championship bid and were slated to play Western Michigan in the Champaign Regional May 7… Junior Axel Nefve earned first- team All-ACC accolades, while senior Richard Ciamarra was a second-team pick and senior Tristan McCormack received third-team honors. WOMEN'S TENNIS (11-13 OVERALL, 5-9 ACC) Notre Dame finished the regular season with a 4-1 victory versus Clemson April 9 and a 4-3 loss to Georgia Tech April 11… The Irish's season came to an end with a 4-3 loss to Miami in the first round of the ACC Championship April 22 in Rome, Ga. … Senior Cameron Corse picked up second-team All-ACC honors. OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD The Irish men's and women's squads have participated in seven meets, the majority of which had no team scoring … The ACC Championships will take place May 13-15 at Raleigh, N.C. … The NCAA East Regional is slated for May 27-29 in Jacksonville, Fla., and the NCAA Championships are June 9-11 in Eugene, Ore. VOLLEYBALL (15-4 OVERALL, 13-3 ACC) The Fighting Irish defeated Army 3-1 in the first round of the NCAA Champion- ship April 14 in Omaha, Neb., but fell 3-0 to No. 10 national seed Oregon the following day … Junior outside hitter Charley Niego was tabbed as an honorable mention All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association April 21. — Steve Downey S o p h o m o r e a t t a c k m a n P a t Kavanagh set the single-season school record for assists (36) and ranked second in the country in assists per game (3.60) as of May 3.
