PHOTO BY DAVID SILVERMAN/ COURTESY NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 5. OL Mike Onwenu, New England Patriots The only rookie on this list, Onwenu started all 16 games for the Patriots dur- ing his debut season in the NFL. The durability he displayed was nothing short of amazing. Onwenu played every offensive snap in 14 of the Patriots' contests, finishing with 927 snaps on the year. That total was the second most of any New England offensive player, behind only offensive guard Joe Thuney's 980. He was also incredibly disciplined for a rookie, committing just one penalty. Onwenu earned a spot on PFF's All-Rookie Team at year's end, while also making an appearance on the outlet's list of the 101 best players from the 2020 season as a whole. Only two first-year pros ranked higher than the Detroit na- tive, who checked in at No. 60 overall. "Rookie offensive lineman Michael Onwenu was one of the surprise stars of the season," Sam Monson wrote. "A sixth-round pick out of Michigan, Onwenu started every game of the season for the Patriots, manning three different posi- tions at one time or another and performing well regardless. He was especially good as a run blocker, earning an 84.9 PFF grade in that facet, but also held up well as a pass protector. "Onwenu allowed just 14 total pressures all season despite moving around the line."
