JULY/AUGUST 2021 ■ 49 day, she would add the national title in the 200 breaststroke. After a tired swim in the morning prelims, a good nap seemed to re- fresh Hansson. She ended up winning more comfortably than she did in the 100. "I felt really good once she got to the halfway mark that she was going to start accelerating," Holloway recalled. She also helped the 200 and 400 medley relays capture NC State's first relay national titles on the women's side. Hansson joined Dick Fadgen in 1956 as the only Wolfpack swimmers to win mul- tiple individual national titles in one NCAA meet, and her four overall title trophies are double what any Pack swimmer has accu- mulated in a single championship. To cap it all off, Hansson then proceeded to go straight into Olympic qualifying, making the Summer Games in Tokyo for Sweden. There's a good chance NC State fans will be hearing more from Hansson before the summer is over. "Ever since NCAAs she's trained at a higher level than she ever has," Holloway said. "It's almost like she went from level nine to level 10 and hasn't gone back to level nine. She keeps getting faster, and she keeps gaining confidence. I knew she was going to make it. I was just curious how fast she was going to go. "It went from a mindset of, 'Hey, let's go make the Olympics,' to, 'Let's go to the Olympics and win a medal.'
