C O M O ver a two-year period, Nick Sin- gleton spent hundreds of hours texting, calling and visiting with various members of Penn State's foot- ball coaching staff. On July 6, that effort paid off for the Nittany Lions. Single- ton, a Rivals.com four-star running back from Shillington, Pa., announced that he planned to sign with PSU. "The relationship with the whole coaching staff was a big part of it," he said. "It was amazing. When I went up there for my official, it felt like home. My parents could see that, too. They felt like we were part of the family right from the start. Everyone treated us like family, which made it an easier choice." Singleton received his offer from Penn State — his first from a Football Bowl Subdivision school — in July 2019, just a few weeks after he camped with the Nittany Lion coaching staff. That trip ended up being one of five visits that he took to Penn State, a total that doesn't include his trip to Beaver Sta- dium this past April to watch an open practice before the dead period ended. "I've been up there so many times. I've lost count," the 6-foot, 215-pounder said.
