46 SEPT. 25, 2021 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP RECRUITING NOTES • Notre Dame's visit weekend for the Purdue matchup Sept. 18 wasn't star-studded but it cer- tainly had quality pros- pects on campus. The group was headlined by Amarillo (Texas) Tascosa offensive weapon Major Everhart. Notre Dame offered Ever- hart July 22 and quickly became a top contender in his recruitment. He has a top-seven of Notre Dame, Texas Tech, TCU, Baylor, Washington State, Colorado and Penn State. " They seem like really good, genuine people," Everhart said about Notre Dame's staff. "Coach [Del] Alexander has given me some advice about my tape; that's really cool coming from a coach like that. Coach [Tommy] Rees is a good dude, too. I've heard really good things about him." Rivals lists Everhart as the No. 84 prospect in the Lone Star State and the No. 13 all-purpose back in the nation. The Irish offered Everhart as a slot receiver, but if he were to play at Notre Dame, he could see plenty of time in the backfield and make an impact in the return game as well. Everhart's best attribute is his speed. At the Texas District 3-5A two-day track meet in April, Everhart won the 100-meter dash with a blazing time of 10.5. He's reportedly been clocked running a 10.34 as well. During the 2020 football season, Everhart rushed for 839 yards and eight touchdowns in seven games. He also added 45 receiving yards and a score. • Chicago Simeon's Malik Elzy, Rivals' No. 28 wide receiver and No. 181 overall player in the 2023 class, visited for the Purdue game as well. It's his second visit to South Bend with his previous trip being at the end of July. When Elzy made his first trip to Notre Dame, he didn't realize just how close of a drive it was. He expected a much longer drive. The proximity from home factor is an important one for Elzy. "That plays a big part, being close so my family can watch me play games," Elzy said. • Notre Dame extended an offer to Park City (Utah) High's Carson Tabaracci, a three-star talent and the nation's No. 43 athlete according to Rivals. The 6-2, 230-pounder is an athlete in the purest form of the word; the Fighting Irish staff is recruiting him to play either running back, H-back or linebacker, and he would be an instant performer on special teams. Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and USC are among his other scholarship offers. Notre Dame seems to be in good shape with Tabaracci despite the late offer. — Mike Singer Quarterback Steve Angeli, 6-3, 215, Oradell, N.J.
