44 OCT. 23, 2021 BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP RECRUITING NOTES • In last week's issue of Blue & Gold Illustrated, we reported at the time of publishing that Lafayette (La.) St. Thomas More's Walker Howard, the No. 2 pro-style quarterback and No. 26 overall player nationally in the 2022 class per Rivals, would be visiting Notre Dame for the Cincinnati game Oct. 2. However, Howard suffered a leg injury the night before his visit and was forced to cancel the trip to South Bend. The five-star recruit still may visit for another game this fall. Howard is committed to LSU, but the Irish hope to flip him, although the chances are probably slim. Notre Dame has a quarterback pledge from Steve Angeli of Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic, a three-star talent. • Notre Dame hosted Amarillo (Texas) Tascosa's Major Everhart, Rivals' No. 13 all-purpose back in America, for an official visit in September when the Irish knocked off Purdue. Notre Dame was recruiting the 5-11, 175-pound three-star talent as a slot receiver and hoped to have his talents in its 2022 class, but he committed to TCU Oct. 7. Notre Dame still has three receiver commitments in the 2022 class and may offer new prospects to potentially take a fourth pass catcher in the group. And in last week's issue, we reported that Ponchatoula (La.) High wide receiver and Irish verbal Amorion Walker, the No. 49 athlete in the land, could be on the verge of a decommitment, making it more probable that Notre Dame offers additional players at the position. • Los Angeles Cathedral's Ashton Sanders, an unranked class of 2023 two- way lineman, had quite the special day Oct. 6. He received his first scholar- ship offer from Nevada late in the afternoon, and a few hours later, he had an "amazingly heartful conversation" with Notre Dame defensive line coach Mike Elston and received a scholarship offer from the Irish. The 6-4, 315-pounder tells BGI that he will visit Notre Dame when the Irish host USC Oct. 23. — Mike Singer Quarterback Steve Angeli, 6-3, 215, Oradell, N.J.
