In head coach Dave Doeren's nine-year tenure at NC State, the fans had never rushed the field at Carter-
Finley Stadium. Doeren can recall that happening frequently at some of his past coaching stops, joking that
when he was an assistant at Kansas they stormed the playing surface after every victory one season since
wins were few and far between.
Doeren finally got to experience such a moment as the head coach of the Wolfpack when his team upset
No. 9 Clemson in an emotionally charged and thrilling 27-21 double overtime win Sept. 25.
The announced attendance for that Saturday was 56,919 fans, and many of them, especially from the student sec-
tion, found their way onto the Carter-Finley Stadium grass after the final incomplete pass was thrown by Clemson.
