DECEMBER 2021 23 REBECCA JARRETT Fourth-Year • Soccer Through four years as a part of the Virginia women's soccer program, forward Rebecca Jarrett has continually set an example of excellence on the pitch, in the classroom and in the commu- nity for her teammates, fellow Virginia student-athletes, and the greater UVA and Charlottesville communities as a whole. As a competitor, Jarrett has proven to be one of the swiftest forwards in the nation, a player capable of challenging any back line in the country as a scoring threat for the Cavaliers. She has tallied 18 goals and 16 assists for her career, and led the team with nine points on three goals and three assists before having her 2021 season ended due to injury four games into the year. She has been named an All-Region selection by the United Soccer Coaches and has twice been selected to the ACC All- Tournament team — including an appearance in the 2019 sea- son after scoring the winning goal in overtime to defeat FSU and vault Virginia into the finals. She also was named to the College Cup All-Tournament team in the spring of 2021 after helping the Cavaliers advance to the program's fourth College Cup. Jarrett also has achieved success academically, being a three- time selection to the ACC Academic Honor Roll and the All-ACC Women's Soccer Academic Team. She has also been a second- team CoSIDA Academic All-District and Scholar All-Region selec- tion by the United Soccer Coaches, and she is a recipient of the Margaret Littlepage Bicentennial Scholarship. Giving back to the community is also a priority for Jarrett, who helped raise money for Feeding America during the COVID-19 pandemic. She is also active in Black Student-Athletes Offering Service and Support on Grounds and volunteers with Run Char- lottesville. Jarrett has done work with The Leonidas Foundation and Voice In Sport, and had an internship with The Meriwether Lewis Institute for Citizen Leadership among others. Some of Jarrett's best memories as a student-athlete at Vir- ginia include times with her teammates, specifically during the run to the College Cup last spring. "After every game we would get on the bus with our party rocker speaker that has a disco ball and lights," Jarrett said. "The coaches would get off the bus and give us 10 minutes to have a mini rave on the bus. Every time we won a game, we would do that in the parking lot, just screaming and dancing. We did that all the way to the College Cup. "Similarly, we were coming home from West Virginia one game, and the traffic was terrible. We were stuck in traffic in the middle of the night. We were able to do that again and have a dance party together in the middle of the night." Because of her injury, Jarrett will return to compete for the Cavaliers with a fifth year of eligibility in the 2022 season. That is her focus now, and she noted she'll worry about plans after graduation later. "Right now, my number one priority is to get healthy so I can play in this next season," Jarrett said. "Beyond that, I don't really know what my post-grad plans look like. At least for the next year I'm excited to be here and play again, be in Charlottesville and possibly work or find an internship." — Bill Bunting • Photo by Matt Riley/courtesy UVA Athletics EXCEPTIONAL UVA STUDENT-ATHLETES
