MARCH 2022 THE WOLVERINE 87 BY CHRIS BALAS J uwan Howard is working on his 2021-22 team and its NCAA Tournament run. At the same time, the coach is also working on his future rosters. Though the Wolverines still won't know who's returning and going for next year, and how much room they'll have, Howard and his staff are working on the 2024 group. He recently offered two more sophomores to go with 5-8 point guard pledge Christian Anderson. Anderson, an elite scorer out of Atlanta Lovett, has been on fire over the last sev- eral weeks. He recently made the Atlanta Tipoff Point midseason team, the only sophomore to named the squad, and is continually putting up huge numbers against great competition. The diminutive sophomore notched four straight games with 35 or more points in January, capped by a 35-point outing Jan. 27. He recently scored his 1,000th ca- reer point, and it came a week after having one of the best shooting performances of his young career. He put up 35 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals in a 75-58 victory over Atlanta Washington Jan. 20. He converted 12 of 15 shots from the floor, 6 of 8 from long range and 5 of 5 from the free throw line. In addition to Anderson, Howard has added two more 2024 offerees: St. Louis Christian Brothers Academy big man Jon Bol (ESPN's No. 25 sophomore in the country) and Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon's Trentyn Flowers (ESPN's No. 13 sophomore in the nation). Bol, a slender but talented 7-2 center, is emerging on both ends. "This past year while playing with Brad Beal Elite, Bol quickly showed his tremen- dous upside," NY2LASports.com noted. "Even with his great height as well as his superior length, there is a lot more to like about his ability on the court. Bol is a mo- bile big man with good agility moving very well for his size. He plays with tremendous energy getting up and down the floor as well to battling on the defensive end. "The sophomore is an active and ag- gressive paint defender that does not give up anything easy inside. Already a very good rim protector, he has all the tools to be an elite shot blocker. Offensively, Bol has a good ability to finish everything around the basket, and his scoring ability continues to take large strides forward." Flowers, meanwhile, is a lanky wing who is also very versatile. "Trentyn Flowers has blown up," On3. com's Jamie Shaw said. "One of the top wings in the 2024 class has gotten bigger and stronger over the past year. That de- velopment has shown on the court." "I shoot the ball well, and I'm a good passer," Flowers told On3.com. "I can de- fend one through five, handle the ball, get to the rack, and I am very athletic. Every part of the game I do pretty well; it is just about fine-tuning it. I've grown about three or four inches over the last year and have gotten way more athletic, which has helped me on the defensive end. "I hear I play like a combination of [past or present NBA standouts] Penny Hard- away, Jayson Tatum and Kevin Durant. Really, I just play like myself. I try to take pieces from everyone, though, and put it into my game." The 6-7, 180-pound sophomore started the season at Huntington (W. Va.) Prep and transferred to Sierra Canyon in early January. Coaches have become well aware of him, including Howard. "I hear from Xavier, Cincinnati, Memphis, Kansas, Georgetown — that's family right there — we hear from a lot of schools," he said. "Southern Cal and Tennessee recently offered. I have visited Georgetown, Xavier and Cincinnati. "I am going to try and go see North Carolina soon and LSU maybe, too. They just offered." And now he has an offer from Michi- gan. Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon standout Trentyn Flowers — a 6-7, 180-pound small for- ward who is listed as the No. 13 overall player in the class of 2024 by ESPN — picked up an offer from Michigan in January.
