He works with the linebackers on a unit that ranked fifth in the NFL in run defense and 12th in sacks during the 2021 regular season. Kovacs got his coaching start as an intern at U-M in 2017, before serving as a graduate assistant for the program in 2018. During his playing days, he was a second-team All-Big Ten honoree and the team MVP in 2012. Jabrill Peppers • NFL The New York Giants safety saw his season get cut short due to an ACL injury in Week 7. He has options this offseason, and PFF listed him as the 134th-most attractive free agent of the cycle. Rashan Gary • NFL According to PFF, his 81 pressures were the most in the NFL during the 2021 season, and his 9.5 sacks led the Packers. The organization has a decision to make on whether or not to exercise his fifth-year option this offseason, and his stock is as high as ever. — Clayton Sayfie HEADLINERS Former Michigan athletes in the news this month Versatile defenseman Quinn Hughes was tied for 15th in the NHL with 32 assists through 45 games for the Vancouver Canucks.
