6 ■ THE WOLFPACKER ■ WOLFPACK CLUB NEWS Where did you grow up? "A little town called Johns Station, just outside of Laurinburg." Where did you go to high school? "Scotland High School, home of the Fighting Scots." What college did you grad- uate from? "I graduated from NC State in 2004 with a degree in parks, recreation and tourism management." What is your responsibility at the Wolfpack Club? "My primary focus is overseeing our membership and gift processing department, and I also handle our day-to-day reporting needs for our different areas. I also take care of our day-to-day IT." How long have you been with the Wolfpack Club? "I am in my 15th year. I started in December of 2007. "I have come full circle. When I started, I was a gift processor in membership. I moved and gained responsibility over time. Bobby Purcell, our former executive director, moved me over to work more one-on-one with him in special projects. I did that for two to three years. I took on more responsibility for more of our reporting needs in different areas. "About two years ago, Trish Stokes, our former director of membership and gift processing, retired. Trish along with Bobby were the ones that brought me on to the Wolfpack Club. She and Bobby were the ones who decided I was the one that should move into this role." What other jobs have you had? "After graduation, I worked as an intern for about a year and a half in our ticket office. When my time was up there, I moved over to Wake Forest University's ticket office for about two years." What is your favorite part of the job? "Getting to know and work with our donors, seeing the passion that they have for our university. We're able to do what we do because of the donors. I take great pride being able to serve them and serve our university. "And every day is something differ- ent. It's not the same routine. It's some- thing new every day." Family: "My wife, Nicole, and I will be celebrating our 11th anniversary this June. We dated for a long, long time before that. We have been together almost 20 years now, and she's a psychology professor. "Burke is 6 years old and just started kindergarten. He loves superheroes. Hayes will turn 3 in June. He loves eating and loves following his big brother around everywhere." What are your hobbies? "When we do have free time, I love reading and I love making it down to the coast. We are a big beach family. North Myrtle Beach is our go-to spot. "I love reading political thrill- ers and historical fiction." Favorite TV show: "'Andy Griffith' and 'King of Queens' are the older shows I like. I watch older stuff. When I have time to watch, most of the time it's on TV Land. The newer shows I like are 'Yellowstone' and 'Ted Lasso.'" Favorite musical artist: "My favor- ite band is Alabama. I like older music, so anything oldies, Motown or classic country." Favorite restaurant: "Amedeo's and Cloos' Coney Island around campus. We live in Cary and also like to go to Sushi-Thai." Fa vo r i te Wo l f p a c k m e m o r y : "I spent four years on the sideline in Carter-Finley Stadium as a student member of the sports medicine team. Those were some of the best four years ever, being around the guys and able to travel. It was a lot of hard work, long days and long nights, but if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't change a thing. "My two best memories being around the team were the Gator Bowl win over Notre Dame, and the experience of the triple-overtime loss to Ohio State with 105,000 people at Ohio Stadium. You literally could not hear the person standing next to you from the time the ball was kicked off until the last second ticked off the clock." What is something most people don't know about you? "I won the James H. Manly Award for excellence for sports medicine during my four years as a student trainer." ■ WOLFPACK CLUB STAFF SPOTLIGHT: Nick Rushing, Director of Data Analytics & Strategy Rushing — pictured with his wife, Nicole, and sons Burke (sitting between them) and Hayes — is a 2004 NC State graduate who has worked for the Wolfpack Club for 15 years.
