Keep in mind offense will continue to diversify over time given the sheer talent at QB/TE/WR we have coming through. He is already a winner in my mind. If he chooses to leave, I wish him nothing but the best. But I hope Michigan recruits the hell out of him. John Doe On the U-M defensive side of the ball … • OK, I like hearing about [R.J.] Moton stepping up … but … I'm concerned about speed at the safety spots this fall. I can see Moton maybe not being too much of a drop-off from [Brad] Hawkins speed-wise, but I don't think anyone is gonna replace Daxton Hill's coverage ability this fall. Not to mention the versatil- ity Dax gave the backfield. He was a Swiss army knife. So, who do you see getting Dax's role this fall? Got a feeling we are looking at a committee approach on that one. calblue • I realize it's split squads [in the spring game] … but I like the showing by both defenses so far. So why do we allow basketball coaches free rein to be so close to the court, or even on the court, during live play and get into the face of the officials every time they are unhappy about a call or non-call? College basketball is a fast and physi- cal game, especially in the Big Ten. I think the officials would do a better job without the distraction of a coach's concerns as they pass by a coach while play is ongoing. The antics of some coaches are embarrassing to watch and demeaning to the game and their schools. The NCAA should consider placing basketball coaches behind the bench when the ball is in play. There is certainly plenty of time for coaches and officials to discuss "issues" during the number of timeouts allotted during a game. Bill Heckman Pewamo, Mich.
