U-M had three other standouts with top-three finishes during the championships. Senior Jacob Moore grabbed a 14.633 on floor exercise and took silver. Sophomore Javier Alfonso had a third-place finish on still rings with a 14.366, while sophomore Evgeny Siminiuc placed third on the paral- lel bars with a 14.400. Other Wolverines earning All-America honors were junior Adam Wooten, who placed seventh on the high bar (14.000), and freshman David Wolma, who finished eighth on vault (14.566). Michigan's 11 All-Americans brought the total to 244 in team history and gave the program double-digit honorees for the second consecutive season (13 in 2021). The 2022 All- American mark was good for fourth best in school history. U-M's third-place finish wrapped up a 23-3 campaign that saw the regular-season league champs also win the Big Ten Championships. In addition, Juda was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Year and interim head coach Yuan Xiao was tabbed the Big Ten Coach of the Year. Men's Lacrosse An upset was nearly in the making over seventh-ranked Rut- gers April 16, but it was not to be. U-M (7-6, 0-4 B1G) suffered a tough 13-12 loss April 16 in Ann Arbor. The Scarlet Knights led 11-6 after three quarters, but U-M rallied to tie the game by scoring six of the first seven goals in the fourth. Rutgers, however, tallied the game-winner with 3:44 to play. The regular season comes to a close April 24 with a road trip to ninth-ranked Ohio State. The contest will be broad- cast via Big Ten Network at 7 p.m. ET. Women's Lacrosse The 19th-ranked U-M women (10-5, 2-3 B1G) closed out their regular season road slate with an 8-7 overtime victory at Penn State April 16. Freshman Jill Smith scored the game- winning goal with 1:06 left in the first overtime to put the Wolverines into the win column. Graduate student goalie Arielle Weissman made 13 saves in the victory. The 2022 regular season comes to an end April 30 in Ann Arbor with No. 8 Maryland in town for a noon start. Rowing Michigan's sixth-ranked women's rowing team closed out the Big Ten Invitational with a bang April 16 in Sarasota, Fla. The Wolverines finished first or second in every race on the slate during the showcase. Nine ranked programs competed in the event, headlined by No. 2 Stanford. The experience was valuable for U-M since the NCAA Cham- pionships will take place in the Sarasota area May 27-29. The next opponent on the schedule comes in the form of Louisville, who U-M will host May 1 in Belleville, Mich. The Big Ten Championships take place May 15 in Indianapolis. Softball The 22nd-ranked softball team (26-13, 6-6 B1G) took care of business in a series with Maryland from April 14-16, winning the last two games to ensure a victorious weekend on the road. Michigan out-hit the Terrapins 9-6 in the first game but fell by a score of 5-1 thanks to 10 runners stranded on base. Senior right-hander Alex Storako struck out eight and allowed five runs (three earned) on six hits through 4 2 ⁄3 innings in the loss. The Wolverines rallied late in Game 2, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the eighth inning to grab a 5-3 victory. Fifth- year senior third baseman Taylor Bump grabbed the game- winning RBI on a squeeze bunt, scoring graduate student Melina Livingston. Graduate student left-hander Meghan Beaubien earned the win out of the bullpen, striking out three and allowing only two base runners over 2 1 ⁄3 innings. Michigan's offense exploded in the rubber match, grab- bing a 9-2 victory with senior Hannah Carson, graduate stu- dent Kristina Burkhardt and Bump combining for six RBI on the afternoon. Beaubien pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk to go with seven strikeouts. Next up is a road trip to Michigan State April 19 before hosting Ohio State for a three-game series in Ann Arbor from April 22-24. Men's Swimming And Diving U-M finished 22nd with 36 points at the 2022 NCAA Cham- pionships March 26 in Atlanta. Freshman Cal Groumi placed 15th in the 200-yard butterfly and finished seventh in the B final with a 1:41.78. The 400-yard freestyle relay group of sophomore Bence Szabados, junior Cam Peel and seniors Patrick Callan and Bora Unalmis finished 22nd with a time of 2:52.77. Senior Jared Daigle finished 32nd in the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:41.71, while graduate student Ross Todd just missed out on the platform diving B final, finishing 20th (314.60). Women's Swimming And Diving Michigan took seventh place at the 2022 NCAA Champion- ships March 16-19, headlined by senior Olivia Carter's silver performance (1:51.19) in the 200-yard butterfly. Senior Mag- gie MacNeil and freshman Lindsay Flynn grabbed second and third place in the consolation final for the 100-yard freestyle, finishing 10th and 11th overall. U-M tied for fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay thanks to the group of sophomore Claire Newman, Flynn, MacNeil and Carter, notching a time of 3:09.95. Letitia Sim ended her freshman season on a high note and achieved a personal-best time (2:08.19) in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing 18th. Men's Tennis The seventh-ranked Wolverines (17-3, 7-1 B1G) grabbed a 7-0 sweep of Penn State April 17 in State College, Pa., which helped them put a loss to No. 2 Ohio State the night before behind them. The setback at the hands of the Buckeyes snapped a 13-match win streak. U-M closes out the regular season April 23 in Ann Arbor against Michigan State. The Big Ten Tournament is set for April 28-May 1 at Madison, Wis. Women's Tennis No. 22 Michigan (14-5, 8-1 B1G) extended its winning streak to four matches April 17 by grabbing the doubles point and three straight set wins in a 4-0 victory against Iowa on the road. The regular season comes to an end with a pair of matches at home with Illinois in town April 22 and Northwestern closing out the slate April 24. The Big Ten Tournament will take place from April 27-May 1 in Iowa City, Iowa. — Anthony Broome
