TRACKING THE PACK MAY/JUNE 2022 ■ 15 PACK PERFORMERS Robin Catry, Men's Tennis The junior from Lille, France, helped his team earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Men's Champi- onship and the right to host the first two rounds. Catry leads the Wolfpack with 21 singles wins this year and is tied for the team lead with 13 of them coming in duals. His three wins over ranked oppo- nents are second most on the squad. Catry also teamed with sophomore Luca Staeheli to form NC State's most effective doubles tandem. The two went 11-3 when paired together, a .786 winning percentage. Jaeda Daniel, Women's Tennis Daniel, along with wrestling's Hayden Hidlay, received NC State's highest honor for a student- athlete, winning the annual H.C. Kennett Award, given to "a superior student-athlete who demon- strates the finest attributes of good sportsman- ship and team play." Daniel, a fifth-year senior from Newtown Square, Pa., reached as high as No. 8 in the national singles rankings this year. She is teamed with senior Nell Miller as the No. 1-ranked doubles tandem entering the NCAA Tournament. NC State, seeking to repeat its run to the 2021 Final Four, was awarded the No. 6 overall seed for the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship. Trent Hidlay, Wrestling The redshirt sophomore from Lewistown, Pa., became the fourth different wrestler under head coach Pat Popolizio to be named the ACC Wres- tling Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Hilday has a 4.0 grade point average while working toward a de- gree in business administration. He is also a mem- ber of NC State's Chi Alpha Sigma chapter. On the mat, Hidlay was the ACC champion at 184 pounds and an All- American after his fifth-place finish at nationals. He went undefeated in ACC competition and 21-2 overall on the season. Kelsey Chmiel, Women's Track And Field A junior from Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Chmiel be- came the first NC State athlete to win the Elite 90 award from the NCAA saluting those who have "reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level ... while also achieving the high- est academic standard among his or her peers." Chmiel was the 2021 ACC cross country champion and leading runner on NC State's national championship team. She was a first-team All-American during indoor track in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter races and has a 4.0 GPA majoring in animal science, and she was the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year in cross country. — Matt Carter Home is where the howl is.
