PACK PERFORMERS Katharine Berkoff, Swimming The junior is continuing to cement herself as one of the top collegiate swimmers in the world. In her FINA World Championship debut in Budapest this June, Berkoff won a silver medal in the 50-meter backstroke. Her time of 27.39 seconds was two- tenths of a second slower than her personal record, which, according to USA Swimming, is also an American record. This silver medal is coming off a 2022 NCAA championship in the 100-meter backstroke with NC State, her sec - ond consecutive year winning the title in that event. Originally from Missoula, Mont., Berkoff has won four national championships in total and is a 19-time All-American. Joshua Brockman, Track and Field The junior from Charlotte once again set the NC State record for the 110-meter hurdles at the 2022 USATF Championships earlier this month. Brockman clocked a time of 13.55 seconds in the semifinals to lower the school record that he al- ready held. His record-setting time follows a track season at NC State that included second-team All- America honors at the NCAA Championships in the 110 hurdles. He finished ninth overall at the championships. Brockman was also recognized this spring with a selection to the 2022 All-ACC Outdoor Track and Field Academic team. LuJames "Gino" Groover III, Baseball The sophomore first baseman from Morrow, Ga., transferred to NC State after spending his freshman year at Charlotte. He instantly became a star on and off the diamond for the Wolfpack and earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic team as a sport man- agement major. On the field this season, Groover was selected to the All-ACC second team after bat- ting .364 and recording 86 hits. He also registered a .440 on-base percentage and finished with 10 home runs. During his All-ACC season, he tallied hit streaks of 24 and 27 games, which were the longest on the team. Justin Ress, Swimming The NC State alumnus and three-time NCAA champion has continued his success at the profes- sional level this summer, winning the 50-meter backstroke at the 2022 FINA World Championships. Ress completed the race in 24.12 seconds in a nar- row victory of .02 seconds. During his career with the Wolfpack, Ress, who is from Cary, N.C., won national titles in the 400 freestyle relay, the 800 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay. A 21-time All-American, he won the 100 backstroke USA national champion- ship in 2017 and also took home the 2016 ACC Male Freshman of the Year award. TRACKING THE PACK Home is where the howl is.
