TRACKING THE PACK SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2022 ■ 15 PACK PERFORMERS Jaeda Daniel, Women's Tennis Fresh off capturing a national title with doubles partner Nell Miller at the NCAA Championships, winning the Wolfpack women's tennis program's first-ever NCAA championship, Daniel was se- lected by the Atlantic Coast Conference to be the league's nominee for the 2022 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. The Newtown Square, Pa., native also was an All-American in singles, making her one of just five players to do so in both singles and doubles. Off the court, the two-time All-ACC Academic Team member has been actively involved in the NC State and Raleigh com- munities, including volunteering for the Boys and Girls Club, Victory Junction Hospital and the Raleigh Salvation Army. Will Gallant, Men's Swimming The junior from Collinsville, Conn., made a sig- nificant splash on the national scene in July with his performance at the Phillips 66 National Cham- pionships in Irvine, Calif. Gallant, a former Indiana transfer who won the ACC and placed third at the NCAA Championships in the 1,650 freestyle last season, won the 1,500-free national champion- ship with the third-fastest swim by an American this year. With a time of 14:57.08, Gallant broke the 15-minute barrier for the first time in his career. He also finished second in the 800 free at the National Championships. Luke Hille, Men's Soccer Fresh off an impressive rookie campaign, the sophomore from Cary, N.C., has received recognition ahead of the 2022 season. Last year, Hille played in eight of the Wolfpack's 17 games and made five starts. Yet, in that limited time, he managed to lead NC State in goals scored (6) and total points (13) while netting 3 game-winners — matching the rest of the team combined. The last was a golden goal in the Wolfpack's regular-sea- son finale, a 1-0 double-overtime victory on Senior Day against Boston College. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Hille was selected to the ACC Preseason Watch List. Martyna Leoniak, Volleyball The sophomore from Warsaw, Poland, gained valuable international experience while playing for her native country during the summer. The Hawai'i transfer warmed up for her Wolfpack debut by helping Poland go 3-0 in pool play in the U-21 European Volleyball Championships and earn an appearance in the bronze medal match. Leoniak contributed 8 spikes, 6 aces, 2 blocks and 16 points during the tournament. Last season, she had 78 kills, 25 blocks, 13 aces and 10 assists for Hawai'i. Home is where the howl is.
