In the process, the Lions have become one of the nation's better three-point shooting teams. Through 19 games, they were shooting 39.6 percent from beyond the arc, the ninth-best rate in Division I, while their average of 10.9 three-point- ers made per game was fifth. Combined with an effective field goal percentage of 55.8 percent (20th), Penn State's of- fensive turnaround helped it improve on the most important stat of all: winning percentage. Heading into a Jan. 24 visit to Rutgers, the Nittany Lions were 13-6 on the season and 4-4 in league play. In a development central to that ef- fort, Penn State's club of 1,000-point scorers expanded to five in January. First, Dread crossed the threshold on Jan. 4 at Michigan, reaching it with a three-pointer in the first half of what would turn out to be a 79-69 loss to the Wolverines. Lundy, meanwhile, achieved the 1,000-point milestone in Penn State's 85-66 blowout win over Indiana on Jan. 11. In his 102nd career game, the fourth- year forward led the Nittany Lions with 25 points. He totaled a career-high 7 three-pointers against the Hoosiers, but it was a second-half dunk that put him at 1,000 points on the button. Soon thereafter, he hit a three-pointer to conclude his scoring for the night. Lundy's performance versus Indiana encapsulated everything he has worked to become as a senior starter, and it drew Shrewsberry's highest commendation. "He competes so hard. He wants to win," the second-year head coach said. "Sometimes it will get the best of him offensively, where he just goes over- board a little bit too much. Tonight, he stayed in rhythm. He took what the de- fense gave him, whether it was a shot, a straight-line drive to attack the rim or a drive to a pass. He kept it simple. When he does that, he's really good. "You know he's locked in when he's flying around blocking shots, when he's flying around rebounding, that effort that he played with." Lundy has delivered many of those elements throughout the season. He missed a game due to a sprained ankle during the nonconference portion of the schedule in December, but otherwise he's been locked in. Seeing 29.5 minutes per game, Lundy has averaged a career-best 13.7 points, and his scoring has been more efficient than at any point previously in his ca- reer. His 47.8 percent conversion rate from the floor is 8 percentage points better than any prior mark. Leaning into his role as a three-point marksman, Lundy has hit on 42.1 percent of his at- In January, super senior guard Myles Dread became the 38th player in Penn State men's basketball history to cross the 1,000-point career scoring plateau.
