Greathouse never wavered in his commitment to Notre Dame since pledging to play for Freeman on July 15, 2022. He told Blue & Gold Illustrated in October that his phone was "buzz- ing up" when the Fighting Irish started 0-2 in September. Schools like Texas, a stone's throw away from Westlake, were hard after him. "I didn't really respond to anything," Greathouse said. "I knew that they'd be fine." Notre Dame won nine of its next 11 games, including the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl versus South Carolina. Now the Irish are set to start one of the most suc- cessful quarterbacks in college football over the last five years in Wake Forest graduate transfer Sam Hartman. It didn't matter who Greathouse was going to be catching passes from. Drew Pyne, Tyler Buchner, Steve Angeli or Hartman. He was always primed to use his 6-2, 200-pound frame to his ad- vantage as a first-year player at Notre Dame. But with Hartman in the fold, and Notre Dame needing players to step up in the wake of Mayer's departure, Greathouse could have one of the most successful freshman seasons for an Irish wide receiver in recent memory.
