BLUEGOLDONLINE.COM MARCH 2023 79 FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP RECRUITING NOTES • On Friday, Feb. 3, news broke that Alabama would be hiring Tommy Rees to become its new offensive coordinator. Any time a program loses a coach, there's always the question of how it will affect recruiting. In the case of Rees leaving Notre Dame, there's not expected to be any impact, which is great news for the Irish. "This decision does not change my decision at all," Malvern (Pa.) Prep offensive lineman and 2024 Irish pledge Peter Jones said. "I am happy for Coach Rees but am sad to see him go. ND's future is still brighter than ever." Rees was Notre Dame's main area recruiter in Chicago, and one could reasonably think that Glen Ellyn (Ill.) Glenbard South wide receiver Cam Williams may have second thoughts on his Irish commitment. But nope; Williams is locked in. "It's all good is all I have to say, and we'll be fine as well," Williams said to Blue & Gold Illustrated. Notre Dame is up to eight commitments in the 2024 class, and none of the five offensive verbals seem to be rethinking their pledges after the Rees news. • Warner Robins (Ga.) Houston County class of 2025 quarter- back Antwann Hill Jr. picked up an offer from the Irish in January during a conversation with wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey. It's not often that a receivers coach offers a quarterback re- cruit, but Stuckey and Hill have an interesting connection. They have the same hometown of Warner Robins, Ga. "He has ties down here," Hill told BGI. "He came back home to recruit, and I'm blessed he gave me an offer to Notre Dame." The offer pretty much came out of the blue. Notre Dame hadn't shown Hill much interest until Stuckey extended the offer. " This was just the first time [talking to Notre Dame], really," Hill said. "I had heard from them last year around this time when he came here, but I hadn't heard from them since. "He was telling me about how Notre Dame has a great campus, great education and the fan base is crazy. He told me how their system is with their quarterbacks and what they like to do with them." During his sophomore season, the four-star recruit completed 268 of 380 attempts for 3,663 yards with 40 touchdowns. — Mike Singer Follow @MikeTSinger on Twitter for recruiting updates!
