APRIL 2023 3 Dear Cavalier Fans, Our spring sports seasons are in full swing and enjoying a tremendous amount of success. This is our busiest part of the academic year with 11 of our 27 sports competing for ACC and NCAA titles. We hope you will be able to watch some of our tal- ented student-athletes at a home event in Charlottesville, or on the road, for those who like to travel or happen to live close to one of our away contests. This should be an exciting spring! The 2023 fundraising season is also underway, and you should have received information about your 2023 annual fund pledge, either in the mail or by email. The annual fund continues to be a critical part of the funding for Virginia athletics and is how a majority of our donors support the program. We encourage all donors to consider making a pledge as early in the year as possible, even if you don't plan to pay your contribution until the end of the year. This allows us to better forecast our funding for scholarships, academic affairs and operational budgets throughout the year. For those who are interested in maximizing priority points, there is a pledge and pay- ment deadline of March 31 for annual fund contributions to earn first quarter bonus points. This is a great way to improve your overall ranking within the donor base and to show your early commitment to the program. As donors are making decisions on their annual fund pledge, we often hear inquiries about the number of donors in each giving level. Below is a breakdown of the donors in each giving level in 2022. If you have questions about your 2023 annual fund pledge, please don't hesi- tate to contact our office. A member of our team would be happy to assist you. GIVING LEVEL NUMBER OF DONORS IN 2022 Scholarship Society Out-of-State ($70,000) 9 Scholarship Society In-State ($35,000) 31 Champions Club ($25,000) 56 Commonwealth Club ($15,000) 139 V Club ($7,500) 513 Captains Club ($5,000) 618 Orange & Blue Club ($3,500) 486 Coaches Club ($1,750) 973 Cavalier Club ($750) 1,042 Wahoo Club ($350) 1,029 Sabre Club ($100) 3,506 VAF Contributor (<$100) 902 In addition to the annual fund, our staff is focused on other areas of fundraising. Re- cently, the University announced a final round of investment in the Bicentennial Schol- ars Fund, which provides a 50 percent match on donor commitments for new endowed athletics scholarships. Many donors have taken advantage of this program to create a family legacy or to honor a friend with a named scholarship. Please visit our website or contact us if you have an interest in this impactful program. We are also hard at work to finish the fundraising for the Olympic Sports Center/ McCue Center renovation, which is Phase III of the Master Plan, and continuing to add to the Cavalier Academic Achievement Fund. This effort will reward student-athletes for academic performance and represents a fundraising target of $1.9 million per year. Without these awards in place, we will operate at a competitive disadvantage against other athletics programs who are already offering the full complement of these awards. There are many ways to support Virginia Athletics, just as there are as many ways to enjoy Cavalier sports in the springtime. We are grateful for the generosity of thousands of donors each year and look forward to seeing you this spring. Best regards, Dirk P.
