FORMER WOLVERINES IN THE NHL: FIVE STARS OF THE MONTH Through April 16 1. Kyle Connor (played at U-M in 2016), LW, Winnipeg Jets: Recorded 31 goals and 49 assists in 82 games, marking his second straight season with 80 points (he had 93 in 2021-22) … Led the 46-33-3 Jets to the postseason, where they'll take on the Las Vegas Golden Knights. 2. Quinn Hughes (2017-19), D, Van- couver Canucks: Tied for second among the league's defensemen with 76 points (7 goals, 69 assists) in 78 outings … The 23-year-old is the first defenseman to re- cord consecutive 60-assist seasons since Paul Coffey and Ray Bourque in 1993-94 … The Canucks missed the playoffs at 38-37-7. 3. Dylan Larkin (2015), C, Detroit Red Wings: Equaled his career highs in both goals (32) and assists (47), with a career-best 79 points … Ended the year with 23 more points than the next- highest Red Wing skater … His team finished 35-37-10. 4. Matty Beniers (2021-22), C, Se- attle Kraken: Paced all rookies with 57 points (24 goals, 33 assists) and topped NHL.com's Calder Trophy contender rankings as voted on by a panel of 16 of the site's writers April 10 … The 46- 28-8 Kraken face the Colorado Ava- lanche in the first round of the playoffs. 5. Jacob Trouba (2013), D, New York Rangers: Tallied 8 goals and 22 assists in 82 clashes for the 47-22-13 Rangers, who take on the New Jersey Devils in the first round … Was called the "perfect captain" in a recent article by The Hockey News' Jonny Lazarus. FORMER WOLVERINES IN MLB Through April 16 • Jake Cronenworth (played at U-M from 2013-15), IF, San Diego Padres: Batting .222 with 12 hits, 3 home runs, 8 RBI and 10 runs in 54 at- bats for the 8-9 Padres. • Rich Hill (2000-02), LHP, Pitts- burgh Pirates: Started three games and has an 0-2 record for the 9-7 Pirates … Recorded a 7.20 ERA in 15 innings pitched. ❏ Leigha Brown • WNBA The former Michigan guard was picked No. 15 overall (second round) by the At- lanta Dream, the same selection by the same organization as former U-M forward Naz Hillmon last season. The two are tied for being the highest draft picks in program history. The WNBA season begins May 19. Luke Hughes • NHL The former Michigan defenseman, the No. 4 pick to the New Jersey Devils in the 2021 draft, finished up his college career with a loss in the Frozen Four April 6, signed his contract and made his NHL debut April 11. He appeared in two regular-season tilts, including when he scored the winning goal and recorded an assist in a 5-4 over- time triumph over the Washington Capitals April 13. Josh Bartelstein • NBA The former Michigan guard (2009-13) was named the new CEO of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury April 10.
