C O M Jay Harry — Baseball A junior shortstop from Metuchen, N.J., Harry was selected in the sixth round of the Major League Base- ball Draft on July 10, going to the Minnesota Twins with the 177th overall pick. He became the 16th player in program history to be chosen in the first 10 rounds of the MLB Draft and only the third position player, joining catchers Matt Wood (fourth round to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2022) and Ben Heath (fifth round to the Houston Astros in 2010). During his three seasons at Penn State, Harry played in 146 games and batted .304, with 169 hits, including 33 doubles, 3 triples and 12 home runs. In the field, he finished with 402 career assists. Josh Karnes — Men's Gymnas cs Competing for the U.S. National Team, Karnes fin- ished sixth in the all-around finals at the World Uni- versity Games on Aug. 4 in Chengdu, China. A rising junior from Erie, Pa., Karnes posted scores of 14.533 on parallel bars and 14.733 on vault, with the latter tying him for first place with world vault champion Boheng Zhang of China. "Josh was outstanding and placed sixth in the all-around against the best in the world," said coach Randy Jepson, who traveled to China with Karnes and PSU sophomore Ian Raubal, a member of the Swiss team. "The results from this weekend were a great indicator, and we look very strong heading into the fall." Chanaya Pinto — Women's Basketball A graduate forward for the Lady Lions, Pinto aver- aged 6.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game while competing for her native Mozambique at the FIBA Women's AfroBasket tournament July 28-Aug. 4 in Kigali, Rwanda. Playing just over 18 minutes per game, Pinto helped Mozambique finish fifth in the 12-team tournament. Her best game was the team's second, against Guinea, in which she totaled 13 points, 6 re- bounds and 3 assists in just 15 minutes, helping lift Mozambique to a 99-40 win. She had 8 points in a 74-65 win over Cameroon to close out the tourna- ment. "This was my second Women's AfroBasket, and we finished fifth," said Pinto, who also competed for her homeland in 2017. "I'm very happy with my team and what we did here." Mac Podraza — Women's Volleyball Podraza was a unanimous preseason All-Big Ten se- lection, as voted by the league's coaches in July. A graduate student from Sunbury, Ohio, she was named Big Ten Setter of the Year and was a second-team All- American while playing for Ohio State last season. Podraza totaled 1,299 assists in what would turn out to be her final season with the Buckeyes, including a season-best 60 in a five-set victory over Penn State in October. An honorable mention All-America honoree as a sophomore and a third-teamer as a junior, Podraza transferred to PSU in January. PENN STATE'S TOP PERFORMERS
