OCTOBER 2023 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 47 ❱ MICHIGAN RECRUITING NOTEBOOK served up a number of pancake blocks and displayed tremendous athleticism and feet in pass protection. Sanders is the true definition of a dancing bear. He also lined up on the defensive side of the ball and recorded a pair of sacks. Simply put, Sanders is one of the coun- try's most coveted prospects for a rea- son. Michigan is making him a priority and hosted him for the first time for the BBQ at The Big House this summer. WOLVERINES SHOWING CONSISTENCY WITH FIVE-STAR QB BRYCE UNDERWOOD The hip-hop classic "We Ready" blared through the stadium speakers at Belleville (Mich.) High in early Sep- tember for a meet-up hosted by na- tional recruiting analyst Tom Lemming, when renowned Quarterback University trainer Donovan Dooley spoke about five-star+ quarterback Bryce Under- wood. It was the ideal metaphor to describe the last eight months of Michigan quar- terbacks coach Kirk Campbell's fight in the Underwood recruitment. Since Campbell earned the staff pro- motion in January, Underwood, On3's No. 1-ranked prospect in the 2025 class, has visited Ann Arbor at least six times. "Kirk is an animal," Dooley told The Wolverine. "I think Kirk's ability to talk to his players highly differentiates him. His instruction has been bought in the locker room and the quarterback room. "The man has a high regard for the position, and his ability to articulate the offense and know what the other 10 guys are doing on offense stands out. I think he's doing a hell of a job at Michi- gan as well as with recruiting Bryce." Underwood returned on consecu- tive days right before the August dead period for the BBQ at The Big House, which followed two visits for spring practice this past March, a late April individualized tour of the facilities and again in June for a team-hosted seven- on-seven tournament. Dooley, who's worked closely with Underwood for several years, needed only one word to characterize Campbell and the Wolverines' effort with com- munication, pitching ideas and showing him the complete picture. "Consistency," Dooley said. Belleville (Mich.) High's Bryce Underwood is the nation's No. 1 prospect and top quarterback in the 2025 class. He lives approximately a half-hour from campus and has visited Michigan at least six times already. PHOTO BY ZACH LIBBY 2024 MICHIGAN COMMITMENTS Player Rating Pos. Ht. Wt.
