OCTOBER 2023 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 7 ❱ BLAKE CORUM SHAKES OFF RUST IN NONCONFERENCE PLAY Under a different set of circumstances, senior running back Blake Corum could have been suiting up for NFL games now, but he elected to return to Michigan for one last ride. So far, so good for the fourth-year back, who rushed for a total of 254 yards and 6 touchdowns on 37 carries in the three nonconference games against East Carolina, UNLV and Bowling Green. The perspective gained from his knee surgery last winter helped shape the senior's comeback story. "Some people aren't blessed enough to be able to play sports and were born with disabilities," Corum told the media. "All I had was a meniscus tear. Something minor. My outlook on life, the way I attack each and every day, really is just taking everything in. Sometimes it's easy to get too ahead of yourself. From time to time, maybe I did last year. But I told the guys to just be where your feet are and really take it in because time flies. I'm really just taking everything in this year. I'm excited to be back. I'm glad I came back. It's going yo be a great year." "He's definitely come back stronger, faster, quicker. He looks tremendous," head coach Jim Har- baugh said. "I have no doubt that we are going to be talking about Blake Corum being the best back and, hopefully, on the best team as well. That's the goal. Same as it is for J.J. [McCarthy], Donovan [Edwards] and Colston [Loveland], and a few other guys, too." — Anthony Broome PHOTO BY LON HORWEDEL
