DECEMBER 2023 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 7 U-M got a boost ahead of spring ball with the official announcement that veteran defensive back Quinten Johnson would return for a sixth season in Ann Arbor. He previously had announced he would declare for the 2024 NFL Draft but did not participate in any all-star games or get an invitation to the scouting combine. "After heavy consideration of the current status of an injury suffered late in last year's national championship run, I have decided to forgo the NFL and return to the University of Michigan for one more year," Johnson wrote on social media on March 12. "With that being said, it's time to win another national championship!" The Silver Spring, Md., native was a key part of Michigan's defensive back rotation during the team's run through the College Football Play- off, posting 22 tackles, 1 interception and 5 passes defended on the year, along with a forced fumble against Alabama in the Rose Bowl. One of his defining plays (pictured here) was a big hit on Ohio State wide receiver Emeka Egbuka in a 30-24 win over the Buckeyes on Nov. 25, the team's third victory in a row in The Game. Johnson, represented by Valiant Management Group, signed an NIL deal with Randy Wise Automotive, which named him "the official de- fensive back of the Wise team." Other Wolverines signed to the brand include junior defensive tackle Mason Graham, junior edge Derrick Moore, junior tight end Colston Loveland, junior linebacker Jimmy Rolder, senior running back Tavierre Dunlap and senior punter/kicker Tommy Doman. — Anthony Broome PHOTO COURTESY MICHIGAN PHOTOGRAPHY ❱ QUINTEN JOHNSON RETURNS TO BOOMING MICHIGAN SECONDARY
