AUGUST 2024 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 13 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Michigan forward Harrison Hochberg walked onto the team ahead of the 2023-24 season and is entering his sophomore campaign. The 6-foot- 7, 225-pounder played in 10 games as a fresh- man, recording 1 point, 6 rebounds and 1 assist in 20 minutes. Here are some things about Hochberg that you may not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From New York City: "I'm from the Upper East Side, right in the heart of Manhattan. I don't think you can put one favorite part, because there's so much that comes with living in the city — and I think that's the best part." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "Frita Bati- dos is my new favorite." Best Meal He Can Cook By Himself: "Home- made pasta with homemade vodka sauce with crumbled sausage inside of it." Favorite Professional Athlete: "I have to go LeBron James. I feel like I grew up in the LeBron James era. I started watching basketball right before he made the transition to the Heat, right when he was winning those MVPs in 2009, 2010, and started winning championships. I pretty much followed him throughout." Sport He Enjoys Besides Basketball: "I love playing golf. That's my escape from basketball." Favorite Television Show: "'The Sopranos.'" Favorite Movie: "Undoubtedly, 'Miracle On Ice.' I watch it religiously, just over and over and over again. That's the one movie I just never get tired of." Why He Chose Michigan: "I grew up as big of a Michigan fan as you can probably picture. My first Michigan football game, I was 7 weeks old. It was the 100th anniversary of Michigan-Ohio State. There are photos of me with a pacifier in my mouth in The Big House. "Michigan has always been the biggest part of my identity, and playing basketball at Michigan is my ultimate dream come true. … I had great conversations with [former Michigan head coach] Juwan [Howard] and the rest of the staff, and basically they gave me an offer to walk on that was contingent on me getting into the school. "I didn't know if I was going to get into the school or not, so I had backup plans — some other prominent, high-academic, Division I schools. I basically waited, waited, waited — and I got accepted in early April. It's just the ultimate dream come true for me." What He Hopes To Do After Michigan: "I want to get into the business side of sports." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "Every time I walk on the court at Crisler [Center], seeing all the Michigan fans in the arena, running out of the tunnel, checking into the game. Any experience that I have with that Michigan basketball jersey on is my dream come true. I'm never going to forget a moment of it." Overall Experience At Michigan: "Every day, walking into the practice facility, getting ready for practice is my dream come true. I really take pride in doing that with the 'University of Michi- gan' across my chest. It's been nothing short of incredible." — Clayton Sayfie A made free throw in a loss at Ohio State March 3 marked Hochberg's first career point.
