10 THE WOLVERINE ❱ AUGUST 2024 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS QB Brady Hart Commitment Is Significant For Michigan Michigan landed its first commitment in the 2026 recruiting class June 18, and it was a splash addition with Cocoa (Fla.) High four-star quarterback Brady Hart making his pledge. There's a long way to go until National Signing Day 2026, but the 6-foot-5, 185-pounder currently checks in as the No. 87 overall prospect in his class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, making him the seventh-highest rated U-M signal-caller recruit since 2004 (the year the On3 Industry Ranking calculates back to). Hart could move up or down as the 2026 recruiting cycle plays out, but The Wolverine recruiting analyst EJ Holland wrote that he believes Hart "could be a five-star when it's all said and done." If he does get bumped up a star, he'd become the Wolverines' sec- ond five-star signal-caller this century, joining Ryan Mallett in 2007. For now, Hart is the seventh top-100 quarterback for Michigan from 2004 on, joining Mallett (No. 4 in 2004), Chad Henne (No. 15 in 2006), J.J. McCarthy (No. 47 in 2021), Brandon Peters (No. 58 in 2016), Devin Gardner (No. 67 in 2010) and Shane Morris (No. 71 in 2013). Top-100 quarterbacks have typically gone on to make significant impacts at Michigan. All six of the others have started at least one game, and three of the six made 28 or more starts. It's worth noting that Pe- ters (Illinois) and Mallett (Arkansas) both transferred and started at their new schools. He's also part of a tremendous run for the Wolver- ines under quarterbacks coach and offensive coordi- nator Kirk Campbell, who's been the lead recruiter at the position from the 2024 class on. In the three-class stretch from 2024-26, the Maize and Blue have landed a trio of four-stars: Jadyn Davis (No. 106 overall) in 2024, Carter Smith (No. 194) in 2025 and Hart in 2026. The average overall rank of those three quarterbacks (130.7) is Michigan's second best of any three-year stretch with at least one player in each cycle in the examined time frame (2004-26). The span from 2015-17 takes the cake (125.7 average rank), and third place is 2016-18 (142.3). — Clayton Sayfie Class Player Starts Appearances 2004 Chad Henne 45 47 2010 Devin Gardner 31 49 2021 J.J.
